This is the first time I've been able to log on since last Thursday, without getting a message telling me that "The requested URL could not be retrieved". I figured that CW must have been down for some reason, but judging by the fact that all of you seem to have been merrily posting away in the interim, I guess that the problem must have been something at my end.
Anyway, all good with the Gurs, secured second place in the Blind Cricket Sunday league, with a convincing ten wicket win over a Div III side, and disposed with the super newbie for 66, chasing the runs down in less than ten overs! All the pops I've been expecting in the next few weeks all came this Monday. In the space of one update: 19yo Noon reached Prof Bat according to schedule, but more bizarrely hit Resp WK after just eight weeks of one net, 20yo Staveley made it to Sup Bat, and also had a Conc pop to Resp, 18yo Bennett hit Prof Bat, 19yo Bewers got to Sup Bowl, and 21yo Strong Bridges M had a Cons pop to Prof, and must only be a few weeks off Sup Bowl. I had thought there must have been some kind'a training bug again, with all those in one week, and especially with Noon's WK popping more prematurely than a thirteen year old lad in a hot tub with Kylie - But reading the rest of your updates, it doesn't seem as though anyone else has experienced anything too out of the ordinary with their training?
But all that means that my best XI now looks something like this.
1. Greening - 19yo - Qual/Med/Feeb
2.+. Noon - 19yo - Prof/Comp/Comp (Resp WK)
3. Staveley - 20yo - Sup/Med/Resp
4.*. Patel - 20yo - Prof/Med/Resp (Sup Lead Woe Exp)
5. Bennett - 18yo - Prof/Comp/Feeb
6. Carey - 20yo - Resp/Med/Woe
7. B5. Mullins - 20yo - Resp/Med/Feeb (Med/Prof Bowl)
8. B1. Bewers - 19yo - Sup/Med/Resp Bowl (Feeb/Feeb Bat)
9. Edworthy - 28yo - Resp/Med/Med (Woe/Med Bat)
10. Bent - 28yo - Resp/Resp/Med
11. Bridges M - 21yo - Strong/Med/Prof
I'd like to get one more decent bowler, and ideally that'd be in the shape of a better all-rounder, but by and large, I'm pretty happy with my team. Besides, I don't have much money in the bank, and the couple of hundred thousand I do have is all going to go on a ground expansion to twenty thousand, in order to try and take advantage of FC gates. Mind you, before I commit to anything, I'm going to have a look at the league I'm in, as I don't want to get saddled with a massive ground with massive up-keep if I'm not going to have the members' confidence to regularly fill it. But I think I should now be strong enough to hold my own in all but the most solid of Div Ivs, and if I get lucky with the league I could even be challenging for promotion. I should start the next campaign with two Sup+ bowlers, and by about half way through the season I should have an all Strong+ top five.
Are fitness levels definitely getting reset at the end of the season? If so I think I'll GFI my next two games to try and climb a bit higher up the promotion table, I'm currently fortieth. Though as I said, that could be a dangerous game, because if a team has been annihilated in their league, it may be that they were toilet, but it could equally be that the general standard of the league was extremely high?
With the exception of Bridges M's bowling net, I'm going to clear the decks on Sunday, in order to make way for 9 fitness coaches, in readiness for my pre-season fat camp.
Oh yes, two last, last things. Firstly, from a personal point of view, please don't go breaking things up into too many different sub-forums, as, as far as I'm concerned, the less navigating there is to do around web sites, the easier my life is. And, having just said all that, I know this isn't the right place to say this, but tough, I'm going to anyway. In my RL match on Sunday, I hit the best cricket shot I've ever played in my life - Even if I do say it myself - It was reminiscent of Rahul Dravid in his pomp. Admittedly it was a long-hop from about the worst bowler in the worst team in the league, but all the same…I came a few yards down the pitch, pivoted on the front foot, with my back foot in the air, and smashed it over Mid-Wicket for six with a straight bat!!! How good is that? - I've gone through at least two boxes of tissues thinking about that one!!
