Looks like i might finish between 2-5 in my league, a couple a pretty average teams but most of them are there and threre abouts. If i can get my Top Order batting up to mediorce is should finish in the top 3.

Hmmmmmm
Since NZ had a new division added the cup fixtures got jiggled i got put up against a Div V bot :D
As for my league theres only one team i'm worried about Onslow CC each time i play them i get much closer to beating them
We have them away in round 2 & home in round 9
With Buckle opening, Lisbie at 3 replacing Paterson,
Ohara replacing McBean at WK and being promoted to 6
Muirhead dropping to 7 and opening the bowling with Prest
Steve Nutter will be opening as always and with the inclusion of cup games for Drunk XI this season he hopes to get over 1000 runs.
"I hope to get over one thousand runs this season" said Steve in an interview with Paddy Gundry this afternoon

In our cup game 3/4 days away we will be opening with O'hara and Lisbie just to see how they go Nutter and Buckle at 3 & 4 as the safety net but i really hope one of them goes on to make a good score (Lisbie will if either)

On a very positive note i have 2 home games in the next 3 weeks
and my last 2 games are at home

Hmm Damn im playing the guy who came second in the division straight away, should be a win though as he has two decent bowlers but nothing else.

Got a home game atleast.

A steady player with feeble leadership skills and worthless experience.

Yeah, I saw him too. I don't have any myself, unfortunately. In other news, I started a 7000 seat upgrade to my stadium, so it will be 17,000, and I'll be making around 120k each game, compared to the 70 I get now, so I'm happy.

Uh-oh, Houston We have a problem!

My cup draw has been re-jigged, and I've been drawn against a Div VI Bot. Happy days, easy TIE victory for me - Or so I thought! - Except, when I come to look at their squad, I find that, far from the barrel of putrefaction I was expecting, they've probably got a better team than me! - Certainly better than the human team I was due to play?! Coddington CC boast no fewer than 1 Comp, 5 Resps, 3 Profs and 1 Strong! And It's worse than that! Because they're all new players, there's no Stats or previous matches from which to judge what they're Resp/Prof/Strong in!

So, Do I pick my best team and tactics as if they were a human side with the same players? Or will they perform crap by dint of being a Bot team?

I'm scared! I can't be the first ever third season team to go out of the cup to a Bot in the 1st round!

Help! Trev

I wouldn't worry about it, all their players are on lively fitness and I imagine most or all of yours will be sublime. Their wages could be inflated by secondaries so they might not actually be that good anyway. I'd definitely TIE, I guess you should pick your strongest team just to be sure, unless there are any PFL issues. Oh and BT-allanfc also mentioned that their form will be reset to worthless before the cup matches.

Due to some drunken inspiration i just purchased a proficient spin bowler by the name of Franny Far for 300000. Now im in the negatives for the first time in my battrick history, what a great way to start the season.

Ah yea, the travails of youth. Being in a drunken state then spending too much money on Franny and while it was great at the time before you know it you're in debt and you've another addition on its way.

Cheers for that Adam, I'll hold you responsible if I fall flat on my *** then:-) Though you've never let me down so far, Bridges M duly popped to Strong after one week on one bowling net, but not only that, he also made Resp Cons! So spot on there. I know he's 21yo now, but I reckon I'll leave him on one net for this season and see if I can't get him up to Sup Bowling. That'll be over-kill for my new league, but it'll come in handy if I can get myself promoted again, and hopefully with Med Stam and Resp Cons, it'll push his potential transfer value up to, if not over £1M.

So you're off the hook for buying my next YP, not that I have him yet. The Graphic interface thing they use for allocating ITS doesn't get on with my speech synthesising software, so I have to get my girlfriend to do it for me - And seeing as I was out playing real cricket all weekend, I kind'a figured I might be pushing my luck if I then got her to take care of virtual cricket matters as soon as I got home! BTW, had a Battrickesque moment this weekend in my RL cricket match, came in at No.6 and hit a screaming straight drive off my first ball - But just as I was beginning to think that the fielding side were being a little too sporting in their applause of my, admittedly masterful, shot, I realised that the bowler had got a finger-tip on it, and deflected it onto the stumps on its way to the boundary, running out my partner by a good half-dozen yards!! And he made out like it was my fault!!

In the BT world, had a cracking match with Dave on Sunday, even though I went down by two runs, tighter than one of Gary Glitter's girlfriends!

My new league looks as though it's all going to be about matches 1 and 8, against Dragnets, as I reckon they're the only team in there who could potentially beat me, and I've got them first up! So I'll have to TIE my cup match and hope for the best, so I can GFI next Friday. I also have a local derby against The Swans, who I'll probably have to PAN against in order to be sure of victory, but all the others look, on paper at least, like a bit of a procession. Though, just to cover myself in the event of disaster, in my defence, I say "looks like a procession", as I guess it's hard to tell what sort of effect morale and fitness were having towards the end of last season. I'll have a clearer idea after Sunday's Cup matches - Though TBH, other than the two sides I've mentioned, none of the others look to have any particularly scary players.

Here's my comparative teams from the start of last season and this, sorry about the lack of tabulation.

LAST SEASON.
1. Eddie Oli - Resp Stam, Comp LH Bat, Woe Conc
2. Alton Staveley - Feeb Stam, Resp LH Bat, Woe Conc
3. Richard Dunfield - Woe Stam, Resp RH Bat, Med Conc (Med WK)
4. Trevor Wynne-Willson - Feeb Stam, Comp LH Bat, Abs Conc
5. Andy Carless (+) - Woe Stam, Comp RH Bat, Resp Conc, (Comp WK)
6. Gavin Partridge - Abs Stam, Resp RH Bat, Feeb Conc
7. Thomas Mullins (B5) - Woe Stam, Comp LH Bat, Abs Conc, (Feeb LFM Bowl, Comp Cons)
8. Brad Edworthy (B1) - Feeb Stam, Woe RH Bat, Med Conc, (Resp RFM Bowl, Med Cons)
9. Gene Bewers (B4)- Feeb Stam, Woe LH Bat, Woe Conc, (Resp LM Bowl, Woe Cons)
10. Joe Crick (B3) - Feeb Stam, Abs RH Bat, Med Conc, (Comp RF Bowl, Med Cons)
11. Steven Burke (*)(B2) - Woe Stam, Abs RH Bat, Abs Conc, (Resp RF Bowl, Woe Cons)

THIS SEASON
1. Doug Greening - Feeb Stam, Strong RH Bat, Woe Conc
2. Alton Staveley - Med Stam, Strong LH Bat, Comp Conc
3. Joe Noon - Comp Stam, Resp RH Bat, Feeb Conc, (Med WK)
4. Neale Patel (*) - Woe Stam, Prof RH Bat, Resp Conc
5. Andy Carless (+) - Woe Stam, Comp RH Bat, Resp Conc, (Comp WK)
6. Richard Dunfield - Woe Stam, Resp RH Bat, Med Conc, (Med WK)
7. Thomas Mullins (B5) - Feeb Stam, Resp LH Bat, Feeb Conc, (Med LFM Bowl, Prof Cons)
8. Gene Bewers (B1) - Feeb Stam, Feeb LH Bat, Feeb Conc, (Prof LM Bowl, Comp Cons)
9. Brad Edworthy (B2) - Med Stam, Woe RH Bat, Med Conc, (Resp RFM Bowl, Med Cons)
10. Joe Crick (B4) - Feeb Stam, Abs RH Bat, Med Conc, (Comp RF Bowl, Med Cons)
11. Shaun Bridges M (B3) - Med Stam, Abs RH Bat, Abs Stam, (Strong RHS Bowl, Resp Cons)

Despite getting relegated, I'm pretty pleased with the progress I've made, but there's still a bit of dead wood to cut out. I don't think any team with serious aspirations should really be carrying a specialist Comp Bowler, so Crick will have to make way soon. Carless was one of my most productive batsmen last season, though he's not going to be a good enough Bat or WK long-term. Thinking of Training Noon up to hopefully Strong Bat and Resp WK, which would do for the time-being although probably even that isn't the ultimate solution. Have Bennett waiting in the wings, receiving training until he turns Prof Bat and can replace Dunfield - And hopefully my academy will turn me up a better all-rounder than Mullins, though even to type that is close to heresy, as he really has punched above his weight with the ball.

Within a month or so's time my top six will hopefully be Sup, Sup, Prof, Prof, Prof, Resp - And all the players who're going to be in the team long-term will have Med or better stamina. Bewers will soon be Strong Bowl, and will hopefully go on to Sup before I cut his nets back, and Bridges M will Get to Sup some time towards the end of the season. But I don't have any other prospects with the ball, so I think my next major signing, when I get some cash, will be another Gun bowler.

Oh, and not sure whether to go into debt to expand my ground, but rake in the increased gate receipts sooner, or save until I can afford it, and miss out on bumper crowds.

Later, Trev

How much would I get for this guy on the market at the moment do you think?

Kenwynne Sekani - 18 yo, BT Rating=8,474
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, moderate
A steady player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: feeble
Bowling: strong Consistency: woeful
Fielding: woeful

Thinking of buying a high resp bowler, 17yo who I'll have to superb by time they turn 18 as they'd have 2 bowling nets all season?

PY

That high? Might well be worth me doing it then as it is unlikely I'll make any impact on the league this season!

Oh, and kudos on the joke earlier. Actually made me laugh out loud. :D

Well virtually every strong goes for 500k or more, they're only 18 and they've reasonable other attributes, not great but not badly flawed either. I figure 700-800k something like that as long as you don't just list them for a cheap sale. Conveniently there's this guy:

Zesh Motterham (442941)
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, drained
A destructive player with abysmal leadership skills and worthless experience.

Plays For: Harrison's Hornets
Nationality: Australia
Age: 18 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 7,583
Wages: £1,964 p/w

Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: worthless Concentration: woeful
Bowling: strong Consistency: feeble
Fielding: feeble

being sold in 3 hours, they're at 700k even without an asking price being set, plus they're being sold at a crap time. They're slightly more salebale than your guy, but there's barely anything in it.

With Mutasa reaching the ripe old age of 21, I have decided that his net is probably served better elsewhere. I have changed his bowling net to a fitness net which has been given to Duggan. I want to get him up to proficient stamina, which I expect will take around 12-13 weeks. He will continue to receive 2 batting nets for the foreseeable future. He is now very close to popping quality batting! Due to fitness reasons Duggan is probably always going to fall slightly short and the NZ u19 side, but not to worry. Its probably for the best anyway!

I'm also now looking into buying a spin bowling allrounder youngster, well this has actually been a plan for over a season now. When this eventually happens Lennon and Hamshaw will both lose their batting nets so that this young chap is able to be trained in both bowling and batting. In the mean time I'll continue training Hamshaw in both disciplines, while Lennon's training will cease when he reaches superb batting, unless of course something intervenes beforehand.

I think that as far as training is concerned concentrating on 2-4 players is probably your best bet. It is these players that will win your side games, and that have the ability to wreck havoc against sides that team more broadly, and across the park. Yeh, that is certainly worth keeping in mind and is something that I'm certainly moving towards doing. I think that I'm probably going to aim to be training 5 players by the end of this season and then 4 by the end of next season.

As for my league, the promoted teams should be easily dealt with. I've found that in the Battrick world, one season makes a big difference in the level of each team. The demoted side however features a couple of internationals in Matthew Coburn, who has a BT rating of 232,994 and Keith Mccombe who plays for the NZ u19s. Should be interesting up against this side in week 1. Otherwise there is Yoda's Yobos and I expect things to be close against him as always. My teams aura of arrogance in III.2 NZ has certainly been shattered after the debacle that ensued last season.

As long as my batsmen continue to get better, I expect my team as a whole should be headed in the right direction also. I'll post my team stats soon as well. Not as good as Adam's, but definitely better than Rob's

I definitely agree with you there, which is why I'm making sure to have Canning on two bowling and two batting nets for the foreseeable future, and alternating the other six nets around on 2 or 3 players.
