Thats ok ive entered in to that extreme bowl friendly thingo thats on the aussie boards so i should be right for friendly's from next week onwards. Yeh hes a great bowler i love his economy rate especially bowling at the death of the innings,i just hope it doesnt get picked for the rep sides now as ill need him for the FC games.
Just on that point, do you have to register a player for a rep side for a national coach to see his skills?

Hmm I saw that guy on the market, I wouldn't say it's a bad buy but judging by his wage you can be pretty sure that he's only just popped to respectable. Last season I would've been really happy to get an 18yo respectable spinner for that price but it seems they're everywhere with the new youth system. He should be decent if you get his stamina up.

Oh dear! Please could you pass me the salt to put on my words about Waddell?! Still, with Greening popping to Strong three or four weeks ahead of schedule, I don't suppose I can moan about my investment either.

BTW, does anyone know whether you get a preferential playoff by finishing 5th rather than 6th? And is there a limit to the crowds you can get according to your division? Or is it based entirely on your members' confidence? If it's down to the confidence I'm beginning to reconcile myself to the idea that going back down to Div V mightn't be such a bad thing, as hopefully my team should do pretty well there, and I can expand my ground further and rake in the cash for a year or two.

Oh, and feel free to bid on James Haldane and Gavin Partridge if you fancy!

Later, Trev

Nope, no limit to crowd size. Am thinking the same thing as you there Trevor, about deliberately losing and getting into Div 5 to earn some money. And what do you mean by a preferential playoff?

The playoffs are just based on league records I think, so if you finish 5th you'd get someone with a worse record (say 11-3 or something) as opposed to if you were 6th you'd get someone who was 12-2. I think you're still just as likely to get a tough 3rd season team either way - if you get one of those chances are you'll lose and get stuck in their tough division with mainly 3rd season teams.

I mean, if I finished fifth, would I get an easier, or at least lower ranked, opponent in the playoff, than if I'd finished sixth?

Hmm, the merits of going down as opposed to staying up is a tough one. The benefit is, as I say, potentially bigger crowds and easier matches. But the flip side of that is that the team who are currently running away with my division finished 6th in the first season and 3rd last time. So I figure that the longer you can hang in there at the higher level, the easier it eventually gets.

Plus the other thing we have to bear in mind is that the longer Battrick goes on, the harder and harder it's going to become to get out of Div V. Last year I pretty much cacked on everyone in my league, but in my old league this season there are at least to teams in their second season who are getting ratings as good, if not better, than I am. So it'd be wrong to assume that Div V would be the cake-work it used to be.

I reckon I'm going to try my hardest to win the almost inevitable playoff, but if I go down I go down, and I'll try not to worry too much about it.

Sorry for more or less repeating everything Scaly's just said, I was writing my reply while Scaly posted his, so I hadn't realised that he'd got in there first. Also sorry for my rotten spelling and grammar, I'm trying to listen to both Stephen Hawkin and the On-Line TMS commentary, all through my one working head-phone.

But yes, before some smart-*** points it out to me, of course it should have been "Two Teams", rather than "to Teams", and "Cake-Walk", as opposed to "Cake-Work".

V. Glad that England are all out - Otherwise we'd have almost inevitably batted too long. Now we have our best chance of winning, and if 313 isn't enough, you just have to accept that you weren't good enough and didn't deserve to win. Besides, I'd rather lose the series 2:0 trying to win, than lose it 1:0 with an insipid draw!...Trev

Lovegrove's wages must be over thhe roof, shouldnt they?

And Trev, pretty exciting series if i do say so myself, building up to an epic finale.

His wages are £4,192, but they will increase considerably next season with the new wage structure. Ballpark figure - £9,000, on bowling alone. I'd say £10,000 is a possibility. But really, no-one knows what effect secondaries will have on wages.

Are you aware that there's a thread dedicated to discussing the India-England series in another part of the forum?

Don't want to be patronising but I've not seen you frequent anywhere else on the board!

Tar Py, and no, I don't think you're being patronising in the slightest.

Um, kind'a yes and no to whether I knew about other threads on the forum, yes, in so far as I heard you guys talking about other topics elsewhere on the site, but no, in so far as I don't know what they are, or how to navigate to them.

Embarrassing confession time coming on methinks:-) I don't know if you will be able to appreciate this really - But when you surf the web by listening to speech software rather than physically looking at it, you kind'a only know what's on the line that you're listening to, rather than having your eye drawn to other interesting links etc. Also, the mouse cursor doesn't work with the speech, so I have to find my way around with the keyboard cursor, which isn't quite as efficient at sifting through mounds of data.

I found the Battrick thread via a Google search, and here comes the embarrassing bit, the only way I can find my way back here each morning is to do a search on the front page for "Battrick" with "Py" or "Adamc", or any of the other frequent users - And it generally takes me to within a few hours of the last post.

So in short, I'd love to chip in on the other threads, (Providing you guys haven't already had enough of me just on the Battrick board), but first of all I'll have to work out a way of navigating myself there.

Not in the office tomorrow, so I'll catch ya all again on Thursday, Later, Trev
