:-O

I shall have an 18yo superb within 6 weeks with much better secondaries than that. Would take 1.2mill. :D

So I get exactly what I said I didn't want last week, put 12 into batting, stamina, fielding and 10 into concentration on a 20yo and get the LOWEST possible level for each one of those (mediocre x 3 and feeble respectively). The only vaguely good thing is that they have respectable w/keeping - but that's pretty much useless to me. So this now makes 5 weeks of the new YP system and 5 pulls without any batting or bowling initial skill above worthless.

Got through to the round of 16 in the cup, but got a nightmare fixture next round, exactly the one I didn't want. Have to play my old nemesis Borderliners, beat them twice in season one but they've improved a lot since then. Got quality/quality/woeful/remarkable/superb/competent in his last match, miles ahead of me. He gets to play a bot on Friday as well, so meh.

Anyway my cup match today, lost the toss and bowled on a cracked pitch:

NYC 151-10 (43.2 overs)
Malik 4-15, Gillespie 4-30, Male 2-29

Asterix XI 152-3 (31.4 overs)
Hera 68* (96), Wynand 44 (70), Cuss 28* (25)

Bowling was very good, Malik picked up a career best and a MotM as well. Lost two wickets in the second over of the run chase, but Hera and Wynand made pretty easy work of it, and Cuss didn't have to bat for too long. Ratings were interesting:
Code:
  	           [B]NYC Asterix XI[/B]
Top Order: strong strong
Middle Order: mediocre strong
Lower Order: woeful woeful
Seam Bowling: proficient strong
Spin Bowling: proficient superb
Fielding: competent mediocre
Not sure how I got a higher spin rating than seam, my one spinner has a lower primary than all of my seamers, and his secondaries aren't outstandingly high either. Oh well, if I improve a level in every department by next Sunday I might have a shot, but then Borderliners will probably do the same. Not that I'd get anywhere in the cup even if I won next week, just that cup matches at this level bring in a hell of a lot more money than friendlies.

Gray HAS to pop soon in concentration. Soon. I'm going to try to get him to respectable conc before the changes. Very happy to see McMillan is now competent/feeble in both bat and bowl, I've decided I'm going to train him up to strong/superb stamina. I'm going to try and get his secondaries to competent/competent before the training changes, aswell.

Well, my side was bundled out the cup today. After having the Colonels 96/4, the bowlers weren't able to push on from there as they got through to 299/7. Holmes finished with 4/59, taking him to 101 career wickets, and probably the top 15 wickets takers in NZ.

The batting was absolutely terrible. The Colonels, who are now in NZ's top league, were originally in my league but have since moved up and on to better things. They have bowlers that just seem to be able to dominate nearly everything they play. As it stands my side has compiled 429/40, or scores of 134, 80, 97 and 118, against them. The most disappointing aspect of this is despite all the improvement my side has made, we're still a long way off of competing with the top sides in NZ which is quite concerning looking ahead to the high probability of promotion at the end of the season. In our batting effort today, we made 118. 82 of those runs were scored by Jason Duggan off only 66 balls. He was there at the start and battled right to the end. 36 runs came off the other 99 balls (+ no balls/wides) from the 10 other batsmen. I think that I'll be looking to improve the stamina of several players come week 8 and the training changes.

All in all, happy to have reached the fifth round of the cup for a second season running. The club has £539,122 in the bank. There is no reason to part with any of this just yet. With a little luck we'll be able to push it up and over the £1million mark by the end of the season.

The Colonels 299-7
Holmes 59-4

Whenuapai CC 118-10
Duggan 82* (66)
