He turned it round by bowling for Lancashire for a couple of years, it worked in that he got his confidence back and when Hoggard was dropped in New Zealand in 08 Jimmy took his place and hasn't looked back since. In the 39 tests since then he has got 157 wickets with an average of 27.81 before that test he was averaging 39.2 so credit to him for turning it round.
Yeah nah..he played 1 CC game in 2006 and then played in the Ashes. He played 6 FC games for Lancs in 07 then got a recall against India, next time he played again for Lancs was in 2008 after the New Zealand series. Have to go back to 2005 before he played a full season for Lancs

ah got it. thanks for the response. last i saw him in tests was in the india series in 08 i think? he did pretty bad there. but looking at his recent stats and youtube videos, i've just gotta say, DAYUM.

i think our openers will crumble.

how is he like now after the initial swing is done? can he reverse?

I reckon Jimmy will have the better series out of the 2. Mainly because I cannot see Zaheer lasting the series and if he does he won't be fully fit. I do expect both to be the best bowler for their countries though.

zaheer is woefully out of form and match practice. for him to be his normal self again it will take about 2-3 matches i think. all will be over by then. anderson to rock the series, barring the opening match at lord's where it won't swing at all.
Anderson hasn't bowled with the red ball since the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka, over a month ago so I can't see him being at his best. Tremlett and Broad bowled a week ago in a first class match.

Accurate, and England are very good at keeping the ball in good condition for a long time so it keeps swinging. Learning to seam the ball more.

Very, very good at reverse - bowled a superb spell of reverse to Clarke at Sydney.

Why did he not play any FC matches recently? Does he still play for Lanc?

And with that, a somewhat overlooked factor - as superb as Zaheer is, not much good when he can't play so often...

That has been one of my arguments for Anderson ahead of Zaheer. No doubting the guys class but he is not likely to get through a 4 test series without breaking down at some point which is a shame for him and India.

Sounds like Khan isn't as injured as first thought. The sky is not falling just yet, and if it is cramps, the rain breaks could be beneficial for him.

Yeah but it's not a good sign if a bowler is cramping up after what, 15 overs or so?

Is his hamstring okay? I heard he was cramping up in the dressing room but nothing about whether he's injured or not.

Not a good sign if an international athlete is cramping after a couple of spells on a cool day in England. Be a relief for India if it is cramp but if he is that unfit then he only has himself to blame.

Strained hamstring apparently, no word for certain as to how serious it is. That to me suggests it's not trivial.

Think we're seeing the downside of protecting your best bowler a bit too much. He looked short of a gallop initially, went in harder and busted something without having hte miles in the legs to absorb it. Sad to see.

He's also excellent at finding his rhythm quickly after a period of injury or an extended break, so you're not compromising too much quality by saving him for the tests. I still think it was the right decision, but it's worked out badly for India.
