Ganguly only had as long as a career as he did because

a) He was captain
b) There were no obviously better replacements to him
c) He could take the new ball when we played 3 spinners
4) He occasionally played a great innings here and there


Rahane is magic but Ganguly obviously the far better fit for his team.

Evidence? He averaged nearly 42 outside Asia which is pretty close to the likes of Laxman and Inzi.

That's fine. He's being picked for the C side. His numbers in ENG/AUS/SA are pretty much in the same ballpark as Dravid. Averaged 40 in WI. Was only poor in NZ. Rahane OTOH can't bat in India where this side would play half of it's games.

65 in England is pretty great, an average of 35ish in Aus/SA is not good but not poor either , just played 4 matches in NZ and does have a century there so it's not very representative, he does average about 50 in Pakistan so that's that. Rahane's average of 33 in India leaves a lot to be desired as of now, still think both of them together in the next team should be the way to go about it, cover each other's weaknesses.

Would personally never put either at 6 , don't think it respects the batting abilities they had/have and unlike say Laxman they didn't particularly enjoy / do great at that position.
