TBF, most people only pick ODI sides featuring players who played ODIs.

cut the saffies some slack will ya. Same way with their test side we are willing to make exceptions for many of their great players whose test careers where limited or didn't play at all for obvious reasons & are still willing to recognise how strong an all-time test side they would have had, similar reasoning would have to be taken towards their ODI side.

Based on what exactly? Cause it cant be history cause based on that the WI certainly has the edge on Pakistan regardless of era.

If the game was played in Pakistan, I would say that Saqlain would be a huge factor since West Indies don't have a specialist spinner. Also, think of the reverse-swing that Wasim et al would get. The Windies bowlers never learnt how to do that (through no fault of their own, of course, just a different era).

West Indies don't need a specialist spinner, their seamers are good enough.

In any case, if a game was played in Pakistan I'd bet a fair bit on there being little in the pitch for seamers or spinners.

Again based on what? A likely Wi top 5 wood be Haynes, Greenidge, Lara, Viv, lloyd Et al and i cant think of ne one of those batsmen who had ne problems facing reverse swing (specifically Pakistan's). Again history between the 2 teams whether recent or in the distant past showed that Wi handle Pakistan pace quite easily TBH. I cant say the same about a pakistan top 6 facing off against the WI pacemen which is y i wood give the WI the edge.

Anyways Abbas was easily better than Yousuf at ODIs (not sure about tests though) IMO, one of the best tbh, wasn't his average 47 or something ridiculous like that?

Nope, Zaheer Abbas averaged 47.62 in ODIs although he only played 62 matches. Excellent strike rate too of 84.80.

That's kinda odd that two of the best batsmen of a certain country end up with such very similar averages in ODIs..... I guess Javed's SR wasn't as good, though.

Yeah, Javed's average (41.7) and SR (67.01) were both inferior. I suppose he had more memorable knocks though, and the longevity of his ODI career counts for a bit.

Fraz - I know logic and reason fails you from time to time, but Zaheer was one of the best ODI batsman Pakistan ever produced. I consider him to be better than MoYo (at least at this stage of MoYo career's).

Zaheer's are a long gone stories IMO.

That's a roundabout way of saying that for me Zaheer was no more than a genius of his time - it's pretty fruitless comparing him to the Anwars, Inzamams, Yousufs, Elahis and Shoaib Maliks of this World because they played a different game. Hopefully Salman Butts can be added to that list in time.
