Watson averaged 38 at 3 (which was his 2nd most successful position behind 1).

He averaged 26 at 6.

Don't understand the options. You've already got Mallett, and Collins bowled decent left-arm spin didn't he? Surely the number 7 should be another seamer, any of Gilmour, Archer, Green, Reiffel, or Pattinson maybe.

The order in which positions are filled affects the final side. If you hadn't already selected a spinner, I'd have thought a Matthews-McCool combo at 6+7 would be a natural fit when you've got a non-batting keeper like Grout, allowing you to play three seam bowlers without worrying about their batting ability.
