Ajmal claims special concession to 15 degree rule allowed by ICC

Language may mean that the number could mean something completely different to what we think though.

Ajmal has a natural kink of 8.5 degrees due to his accident. So when bowling if he bends the arm up to 23.5 degrees and then straightens it back to 8.5 degrees (he can't straighten it more due to the accident) wouldn't that be legal because he has only straightened it by 15 degrees. Although we don't even know if he actually bends it by 23.5 degrees.

He meant he has a 23 degree bend in his arm but it straightens under the 15 degree limit - so under the rules.

Seems that this is correct. Ajmal is allowed to bend his arm up to 23.5 degrees, but the straightening law applies the same to him.

It's funny how this natural kink has only just come into the open isn't it?
Not really, he gave an interview in urdu about it. To you and most people it has just come out, but the ICC knew it all along and that is what matters.

Why does it matter if the media did not know about it before?

Whatever it takes!!!
nah.. . Funny how you only notice it after he has made your batsmen look like idiots.
From that article:

ICC said:
ICC General Manager – Cricket, David Richardson, said: ''There is a big difference between the “elbow carry angle” (elbow abduction) and the degree of elbow extension. There is nothing preventing a bowler bowling with a bent arm, provided he does not straighten it beyond the permitted degrees of tolerance.''

Where are the genius who were teaching me laws of bowling in the other thread? 8-)

So does this mean that guys like Brumby who were labelling Ajmal as a chucker were wrong because of this natural kink making it look like chucking (deceiving their judgement). He may be ugly to watch but this new evidence shows that he really wasn't a chucker all along.

Too much concentration on his action by the English Media and ex - cricketers this series for my liking. Yes the Teesra was really bad, but he stopped bowling that and it's not like that he has just started playing cricket or came out of nowhere.

Lets not blame the English performance on Ajmal's action. They failed against Rehman who has a squeaky clean action.

Ajmal's doosra looks to be chucked to the naked eye. But if its within the rules, then how can it be illegal? ICC should just make sure that bowlers are not bowling legally while testing and then chucking during the match,

Testing isn't exactly the best way to make sure the bowler is consistent in a match and in the lab. However they do compare the bowlers action in the lab with his action in a match. They make sure that he is bowling at the same speed and puts the same revolution on the ball as he does in match conditions. How is it that Botha got caught by the ICC bit Ajmal hasn't? Is Ajmal more sneaky and clever than Botha?

Botha got caught because his doosra was measured at about 30 degrees IIRC.
