Adam Voges Retires from Internationals

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
This thread could do with some praising of Voges. So here goes:

The mirthful hands of frisky fate
did reward our hero light and late
but he gloriously redeemed the wait
and duly incurred stastmongers' hate

For he is Adam, of the Voges line
whose greatest stand yielded 269*
yet nowhere was he more maligned
than the ***-stained corridors of Channel 9

International Vice-Captain
If you look at his average innings by innings, it looks like a batsman at the start of their career before their average settled down.

Actually, why wasn't he selected earlier ahead of the likes of those two? His first-class record is substantially better than theirs, I think?
North actually had a really good first class record and it was frustrating that he didn't kick on to become a 40+ averaging middle order player.

Marsh is mostly loved by selectors because when he has a good innings it looks super ***y.

Voges is the kind of player who would be being talked about right now if he was 27.

A beautiful ode to the man. I'd like to add my own if I may:

"There was an old man from Subiaco,
who when ask if he'd play on said 'oh **** no',
I've be kissed on the arse,
the balls and the shaft,
The Ashes resembled a shart though."

I think there's a hint of sarcasm in there but for the last decade there's been Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, Watson, Smith, North and Marsh (2) all floating around.
Some interesting definitions of all time greats there.

In that timescale there's probably Clarke, Hussey and Smith that would fit that category, although Ponting was still a certain pick at the beginning of that period (but a fading great rather then anything else) At no time was there a middle order full of all time greats ahead of him by any stretch of the imagination.
