Adam Voges average watch

Victor Ian

International Coach
I don't want Vogues to retire until his average is down around 45-47 where it should be........would be ****ed if he called it quits now (or gets the arse) and it forever sits north of 60 IMO.
It will not be bad in the slightest. In fact it may be good. You need these quirks to punch everyone in the face that stats do not tell the whole story. Yes, they give an indication, but on their own, not much.

If he goes right through summer (and Pakistan bowl well) and through the India tour he might get there. But that's not looking likely at the moment.

so dropping Nathan Lyon is just something Australians do for fun huh
This time it has a bit of validity though. O'Keefe is the better batsman and fits Smith's tactics better IMO. I'd lose it if we saw Holland or Zampa in his position though.....

Surprised only Smith, Warner, Starc & Hazlewood are considered safe. Khawaja has surely done enough and even though he didn't score many in this test surely Ferguson gets another game? Similar for Burns, I know it's been a while since he did anything in tests but bringing him back and dropping him after 1 game doesn't feel right. I wouldn't extend the same logic to Mennie, though, since by all accounts he shouldn't be anywhere near the test squad.

Whatever it takes!!!
I would say 8 of this 11 should get another game...

Smith, Warner, Starc, Hazlewood, Khawaja - Safe
Burns, Ferguson - Too early to drop, not enough chances given yet on this go.
Nevill - Coz Wade cant be an option for the D/N test.

I would suggest this XI

Warner
Burns
Khawaja
Smith (c)
Ferguson
Nevill
Maxwell
Marsh
Starc
Hazlewood
Bird

Dunno about Marsh, he seems he could be a very useful bat down at 8, but is his bowling good enough? Mind you, I don't know enough about Australian Cricket to suggest anyone else.

Other than that, it seems the sensible way forward.

For the label as "one of cricket's finest", there has to be a minimum set of Test matches played. I will need to look up how many you need but I imagine it would need to be at least 20. Voges does not pass.
Oh, I mean one of Test cricket's finest.
*Hint of sarcasm*

It wasn't just the killing of Windies and the Kiwis, it was those little (*'s) that magnified it even more.

That feeling when...

Australian's bag Vogues on account of him scoring easy runs when it didn't matter against the Windies, while continuing to assert that Steve Smith is as good as his average despite feasting on the Windies and India.

Remove Windies and India, Smith averages 46.4 from 35 matches. Add Windies and India, Smith averages 57 from 46 matches.

People who call players who are a few years old in Test cricket an ATG (irrespective of average) are dumb. Having spent almost 10 years on CW, I can safely conclude that most people on CW do not do that. Smith is not an ATG, not because he is not good enough, but because he is far too young. ATG is a status that is bestowed upon you near the end of your career when you have demonstrated your quality over a considerable period of time.

That being said, to run down Smith now is stupid. Guy is still easily the best batsman in the country, has scored runs in England where he was supposed to be exposed, got runs in South Africa, got a ton in Sri Lanka and looked the best batsman in UAE against Pakistan. In fact Yasir till this day rates Smith as the guy who played him the best.

Against England, NZ, Pak and SA Smith averages 47.0

Against England, NZ, Pak and SA Tendulkar averages 46.49

therefore Smith > Tendulkar

Area CW poster discovers that when you take out a batsman's good performances, his average goes down.
