But purely as a batsman, he is overrated. His batting average (obviously combined with the strike rate) is a symbol of his value down the order (especially considering his secondary skillset&high impact explosiveness), but no way is he actually a 47avg level Test bat.

Him averaging in the 60s in his first few years contributed to his super high rating as a keeper bat.

With regards to his batting being over rated, I mainly don't get how he escapes all of the criticism thrown at Punter, while batting 4 places lower in the order.

Other than that, while I agree he wasn't a 47 average level batsman, his aggression made him a cheat code that low down the order.

It's what makes Steyn better.

He was very arguably the 4th best bowler ever, I don't see how Gilchrist surpasses that. Gilchrist is more the final piece to the puzzle than the main man on a team.

I don’t think he really does tbh. He doesn’t make CW’s top 60 test batsmen and probably wouldn’t even make the top 75.

Yeah that makes him worse to me than all top tier bowlers, bats and ARs.

And wouldn't go nearly that far. I have him 5th among all rounders
