And I do think he's an ATG, I have him in the top 20, but I also have Steyn borderline top 10, 11th to be exact.

Where would you rank Gilly purely as a gliveman?

Top 15.or.so?
Don't know, find it impossible to rate keepers I haven't seen. But I genuinely think he suffers from that syndrome where people think being a better batsman means you automatically have to be a worse keeper. As though it's a role playing game where you're putting a limited number of points into different skills or something. With Gichrist, there was no Alec Stewart/Rishabh Pant/Johnny Bairstow esque sacrifice with regards to keeping quality. Well, I guess he wasn't as good as Healy but then I don't think anyone was.

Really great keeper imo and in his time, I think he was the best keeper (just on glovework) in the world which people don't really talk about because of how good he was with the bat. SA had Boucher, India had Mongia, Pakistan had Latif/Moin, NZ had Parore, SL had Kalu/ early Sanga, WI had Jacobs, England had Russell (pretty overrated with the gloves overall)/Stewart... and Gilchrist was better than all of them imo. Post Healy, I don't think I can count 2-3 keepers better than him on just pure glovework. Inb4 people rattle off 20 average bats like Prasanna Jayawardene/Saha etc. (who I both rate highly as keepers btw) saying they were way better keepers but I think that's a total myth. Keeping to Warne with his awkward leg stump line to the right handers is a ridiculously tough job and Gilchrist handled it superbly.

Yeah I totally agree. I have a little more respect for the keeping of some of the older keepers who kept up to the stumps to medium-fast bowlers more with few dropped catches, but of modern times I do think he was absolutely in the Saha/PJ league.

When asked previously I've also said I've found it impossible to rank keepers.

And yes, Gilly was well above Stewart's, Bairstow's, Pant's etc of the world. No discussion there.

I do disagree with your Russell take though.

From what I've read and seen, the ones off the top of my head who I can rate above him as a keeper alone.

WI - 3
Aus - 3
SA - 2
SL - 1
England - 3
India - 2
Pak - 1

Didn't go back as far as to the likes of Blackham etc and could have missed some names, but also included some that others might disagree with, so think about 15th is fairish.

List of batsmen who are definitely better than Gilly since 90s

1. Hayden, Ponting, Waugh, Smith , Clarke
2. Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman, Kohli
3. Root , Cook
4. Smith , Amla , Kallis , ABD , Kirsten
5. Younis , Inzamam
6. Sanga, Jayawardene
7. Lara, Chanderpaul
8. Williamson
9. Flower
So not even top 25 batsmen since 90s . No way he is better than Steyn who is a definite Top 7/8 greatest bowler ever

Not here,He was considered better than sachin in other social media platforms.
Social media is a horrible place to go for quality sports analysis/opinions. You have to wade through a mountain sized amount of **** to find anything decent.

Its also far more recency biased than any other place. Its all about the now and whats trending. Even this forum, which is by far the best place I’ve found for cricket discussion, falls prey to this sometimes.

A majority opinion on social media isn’t necessarily going to convey anything meaningful about the quality of any player, particularly a current one.
