My spies in Bairnsdale indicate that Pendlebury is not the perfectly innocent party that he is being painted as. In fact, some would be surprised if he could remember anything of the evening...

It's probably far more likely to go horribly wrong in a couple of years. People need to remember he averaged something like 4 disposals a game, which isn't what you see in a highlights package.
I realise that no one (particularly in here) has said he will be a superstar, but the attention he is getting in the media makes him sound like a good chance of making it, which patently isn't the case for most rookies.
I wish him all the best though.

Don't see how it can go horribly wrong, even if he never even gets close to a senior game its no big loss, he's a rookie pick, speculation is what its all meant to be about. It's not like we used our first round pick in the ND on him.
The media attention has been great for the club, the kid himself seems very down to earth about it, realises he's a lot of learning to do over the next couple of years to even get anywhere.
The stats also don't show his improvement over the year, his performances at the tail end of the year showed big strides, but we are talking 2-3 years down the track he might play senior footy.
Fits our needs as well if he develops into a ruckman/forward. We have McIntosh & Goldstein who are potentially there for the next 6-8 years and Petrie and Hale as backup but Petrie is needed forward and Hale might want to leave if he doesn't play so we need someone developing.

Yeah I agree, speculation is what it's all about in the rookie drafts, but when has there even be so much attention on one particular bloke right after the RD? It can't go horribly wrong for the club, but it can go wrong for him if his AFL dream fades without ever even playing a game. I hope you're right when you say he's quite down to earth about it but let's hope his drive and work ethic match his modesty.

We haven't had any credibility for years and even the Fev dismissal was pretty see thorugh and didn't win us many fans so not too worried on how it looks because it doesn't really matter.
