Brilliant, the only class thing about Carlton they get rid of, as if any bum they'll get now would do any better. Hey guess what, you give any coach in the world our playing list with holes in it from here till tomorrow and you'll still wont win any games. I wasn't in favour of sacking Brittain to begin with and thought it was woeful form, but this is even worse. Anyways, wouldn't mind Daniher from the available options but who would want to come to Carlton?

It may well have worked for Carlton were it not for their well publicized draft penalties. Goddard and Wells (iirc) would certainly make a fair difference to the resurgence of Carlton. And Richmond have been largely 9-11 since '00 (with the exception of '04 and last year), and have never really gone into anything remotely resembling a rebuilding phase.

Richmond were 9th last year as well.

Raines' disposal is shocking. After promising so much last year, he's really had a very disappointing year.

Raines reminds me of Shannon Byrnes for Geelong. Both back themselves with their pace, but too often they hit a dead end, so their disposal is rushed, or is a handball to someone flat footed which sells them into trouble.

The worst part is that Essendon would still be looking to make the finals. They do have a tough draw (supposedly, someone mentioned that today) and some pretty important injuries, but it's not the ideal environment to be heading into September with.

It's clear though that the board wanted a new coach at the end of the year when his contract runs out, and they'd be behind the eight ball in getting the best on offer with three other clubs already looking for a new coach.
