The double pain for Melbourne is that they wanted Shuey at 19 but just missed out and had to pick Strauss instead...

Unsure about him as a player but Cornelius is up there with the best names in the game

Round twenty tipping update

Yet another week with shocks thinnish on the ground, so decent scoring on the whole. Bombers/Swans was the only fixture to really divide opinion, with a even 50/50 split of CW.

Jono, morgie and SBI all cost themselves a point by missing the shoo-in Saints win in the opening fixture. SBI remdeemed himself by tipping all 7 of the remainder correctly, including being the sole tipster to back the Crows winning at The Gabba in what passes for a surprise result of late.

Weekly

howardj 7
Clapo 7
SBI 7
Vimes 7
Benchy 7
Brumby 6
SKD 6
cameeel 6
altoz 6
Jono 5
morgie 5
HDS 5

The big news is howard moving in level first with yours truly by virtue of correctly backing Essendon. A poor week for Augustus means his chances fade somewhat.

SBI climbs to a share of fifth, morgie drops to eighth and Benchy again draw level with tozz, thanks to the Bombers/Swans divide.

Overall

=1) Brumby 119
=1) howardj 119
3) Jono 115
4) Vimes 114
=5) SBI 113
=5) SKD 113
=5) cameeel 113
8) morgie 111
=9) altoz 109
=9) Benchy 109
11) Clapo 108
12) HDS 100

Afraid that's it for me as a scorer tho. English Prem starts next week and I'll be spreading myself too thin with that too, so one of you good people is going to have to step up.

I'm red hot against Voss

We've won six of our last 36 games

That gets you a new two year deal, does it?

Especially when you've already been at the helm for three years

That period is long enough to show your wares

Is the home and away season too long?

Having 17 rounds and playing each other just once, has certain attractions (equity being the principal one). However, I think 17 weeks is just not enough footy. That's 35 weeks of the year where you don't get to see your team go around. I realise, with the recent TV deal, that it's a hypothetical question but is 17 weeks home and away, enough?

Marc Murphy. Brownlow medal chances.

Discuss.

Have heard rumours of sportsbet already paying on the Judd win...

Murphy has had a stellar season, but I think Judd has been at least his equal. Moreover, The Champ is more eye-catching than Murphy and has a history of polling well in the Brownlow. Interestingly, Pendlebury is 2nd favourite behind The Champ, but I think Collingwood's Brownlow votes are more likely to be shared around than Carlton's are.

Let's not get confused about why they did that - it's not because he's a moral, it's for the publicity they can get by sticking it in the Herald Sun. They do it every few months for whatever result looks likely at the time.

You might be right about Collingwood sharing the votes around. Last year Swan and Pendlebury managed to rack up 24 and 21 votes respectively, but Swan isn't going to get anywhere near as many as he did last year. Without re-looking at his games so far I'd be surprised if he even has 15 to date. It seems logical that Pendlebury will pick up some of that.

Interestingly, Murphy only polled 5 votes last year. It really would be something for a player to go from 5 one year (only missed one game, against Freo) to picking up Charlie the next and defeating Chris Judd in the process. Having said that, people think a player's attitude to the umpires matters and this year Judd has been pretty snappy with them, so you never know.

Nat Fyfe to win it imo.

Players stealing votes off each other in the Brownlow is such a myth, it's a blatant fallacy.

Let's go through the Brownlow winners of recent times, taking out Judd last year.

Gary Abblett played in the best midfield in the competition.
Cooney had little competition in the midfield.
Bartel best midfield.
Goodes played in a Grand Final team.
Cousins best midfield.
Judd best midfield.
Skip the 3 way tie.
Black best midfield.
Akermanis best midfield

etc etc etc.

The fact is that you generally need to play in the one of the best midfield's in the league. Players around you will make you look better than you maybe already are.

In conclusion, I'm sick of people using the 'he'll steal votes off him so he won't win it' line.
