Which of the two has more utility and value for a team.
Would it be better if one of your bowlers can bat a bit or if your batsman can contribute with the ball and be an ace in the cordon.
How to start a thread about Sobers and Imran without making it about Sobers and Imran.First of all, leaving Sobers and Imran out of this
Becuse Sobers and Imran are outliers, top 10 players of all time and quite frankly freaks. Why would you keep Sobers out but not Jadeja or Kallis?
Becuse it's been done, creates animosity and not what I want to discuss. How to start a thread about Sobers and Imran without making it about Sobers and Imran.
Kallis didn't have nearly the bowling load or versatility. Why would you keep Sobers out but not Jadeja or Kallis?
Who are you replacing him with?Greig was hardly a batting all-rounder, definitely not in the mould of Hammond, Simpson or Worrell. Averaged 28 with the bat in non-Test FCs. If anything, he was a pure all-rounder, even slightly a bowling one in FC overall.
That's like closing your eyes to make the reality go away. Jadeja is every bit an outlier as those two. Same with Ashwin.Kallis didn't have nearly the bowling load or versatility.
I just took out the (contentious) outliers.
Ignoring the Jadeja part.
Imo Kallis was a better bat than Pollock a bowler, so Kallis overall ahead.Who are you replacing him with?
Actually on due reflection, doesn't matter.
Think the best comps are Kallis vs Pollock. Neither flashy, but effective.
Who was more valuable to their team.
The top 15 batsman who was a godly slip and useful 4th / 5th bowler or the top 20 bowler who averaged 30 with the bat.
So I'll bite. That's like closing your eyes to make the reality go away. Jadeja is every bit an outlier as those two. Same with Ashwin.
Who for you is the better comp?Imo Kallis was a better bat than Pollock a bowler, so Kallis overall ahead.
Kallis vs Hadlee maybe? Although Hadlee is a top 3 pacer for me all time. Kallis might not have a direct comparison, at least not to players of near the same qualityWho for you is the better comp?
Hadlee is a wayyy better bowler than Kallis is a batsman. Hadlee is Sober's comp imo.Kallis vs Hadlee maybe?
Yeah that's why, Kallis might not have a direct comparisonHadlee is a wayyy better bowler than Kallis is a batsman. Hadlee is Sober's comp imo.
So who's the ideal comp?Yeah that's why, Kallis might not have a direct comparison
Jadeja is greatest spin bowling all rounder. average of 24 with ball and avearage of 37 with bat doesnt that make him atgSo I'll bite.
Imran is a top 10 ATG bowler and as good a lower order batsman as there's ever been.
Sobers was a top tier top 5 batsman, a top tier top 5 slip fielder and the most versatile bowler ever.
For you, where does Jadeja and Ashwin fit in with those two? They don't even compare to Hadlee or Pollock. Where is Jadeja even an ATG?
I actually don't know. Bowling all rounders vs batting all rounders is close too and basically comes down to particular players. Great bowlers in general affect results of tests more than great batters imo. Does slip fielding make up for the difference? Maybe, but it's too tough to call. Might change my mind later and vote for batting AR'sSo who's the ideal comp?
And from your vote you believe bowling all rounders have greater import?
Kapil Dev and Frank Worrell.Who for you is the better comp?
