5th Test at The Oval, London

The pattern of Smith (or his replacement) top scoring in every innings is still on. Absolutely insane.

Anyway, good morning for England. Would be remarkable if Australia can get there from here, though I wouldn't entirely rule it out

And with 769 runs, Steve Smith moves into equal 13th on the all-time leading series run scorers list, joining Steve Smith's 2014/15 effort vs India ;)

I don't see any point in the nonsense said on the field at the best of times. But in that last over someone (maybe Bairstow nearest the stump mic) used the words "chimney" and "chicken and chips".

TUFNELL: "More than Warner did in this series"

Heh. You forgetting the dropped catch at Headingly and Denly early this Test vs. exceptional fielding at bat pad?

Also, Bancroft did show an ability to last longer.
I don’t mind Bancroft. He’s still capable of making a comeback. I’d have dropped Harris here and not over his fielding. I just don’t think those catches made that much of a difference. We made plenty of mistakes in both games not to pin the losses on them. Think Usman was the man who should have come back in.
