4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, 15 - 19 Jan 2021

But it was strategy. May be bad strategy but at least it is bowling to some kind of plan, right? Which is why I feel you dont judge debutants after their first spell. A lot of us made the same mistake with Siraj at Melbourne.
yeah that's a fair point

wonder as to the merits of it because eventually those'll go for runs (i think; i just can't see sundar making a marginal change to force a catch down leg the way the supernerd did) but if it works it works tbf

Whatever it takes!!!
Sundar isn't really who Kuldeep should have been in for though. He's the only bowler capable of batting 7 so he kind of had to play. Going with six bats plus Pant wasn't really an option once Vihari was scrubbed.
True, but Shardul has looked like taking a wicket a few times, and really the only one he could have played for was Nattu and he has bowled ok too. Its a hard one to judge, and like I said, if they think he is not bowling in good rhythm, it is totally fair to leave him out thinking it is a risk.

It's good strategy as long we keep the leg slip along with the rest of the leg field. That leg slip went missing for large portions of the last game. Much harder to milk singles through there when it's present.

Interestingly enough, back in 2016, Sundar got his first big break in the limelight in the IPL as Ashwin's replacement when he was injured. The side he played for was eventually led by Steve Smith during that season.

And now he gets a test debut because Ashwin is injured. It will be hilarious if Sundar does well and we end up picking him as Jaddu's replacement for the tests against England at home. Though, tbf, a spin attack of Sundar, Ashwin and Kuldeep with Ishant and Siraj as the seamers is not the worst. Heck, even Shardul is good at home to hack a few wickets.

missed the first session. Looks like we stared well and the worst is yet to come.

Might have gone for Kuldeep instead of Natranjan or Thakur, but perhaps there was some rationale behind it. Such an extremely inexperienced Indian XI. I wonder if Natranjan, Thakur and Sundar will ever play another Test after this one.
