4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, 15 - 19 Jan 2021

The Wheel is Forever
The 21-year-old all-rounder had after all been held back with the Test squad purely so that he could replicate Nathan Lyon during practice. He was nothing more than a net bowler. Not to forget, he hadn't played a first-class match since November 2017.
I didn’t realize he hadn’t played FC since 2017. Ffs.

Whatever it takes!!!
Of course, everyone thinks Sundar has potential now. :p

BTW, Aussie attack have got a lot of miles on their legs. Dont write off them losing either this game and/or the series in RSA due to this reason.

These guys have punched above their weight, or maybe Aussies have punched below theirs - but I don’t think a lot of these players are really Test standard. Not yet at least. And guys like a 29 year old Natarajan who often bowls in the mid 120s will never be.

I’m just impressed by the mental toughness and resolve these guys have shown. But Aussies have to take a hard look at their own mental toughness after this series, regardless of how this Test match ends.

the thing that i like about sundar's bowling is that he bowls at around 95kmph and is very accurate in general

in a deteriorating indian pitch, he'll not give a lot of time for the batsmen to react and will be successful

thing that worries me however is his lack of variations

who knows jadeja has like two balls and has done well so maybe he will become better in time and master his own method to be a threat to everyone

Yep. This is a "brittle" side that doesn't react particularly well to being put under serious pressure, and also doesn't have the ruthlessness to put teams away when the opportunity arises. We saw it in England, we're seeing it here.

I'm not hugely worried about the SA tour from that POV tbf. There's a gap of a few weeks between the end of this match and the start of that tour, that should be plenty of time for the fast bowlers to recharge. Unless of course someone breaks down tomorrow or Day 5.

I don't think that will happen though. Today was the real danger day from an injury POV, I don't know how much cricket we'll get on Day 5.

India needs to start with Sundar against Warner. Give him no pace to work with. Force him to play aggressive shot.

Seriously but I haven't seen Lyon bowling so listless as he has done in this series. Not sure whether its got to do with the pitches but the dude has been getting worse with each outing. I know there is one more innings left but I will be surprised if anything markedly changes other than due to some really stupid batting by India.

Interesting - I'd have thought you could get much more "fluid" from sweat than saliva. But maybe that's just because I'm very unfit.
Only sweat from the gut/stomach area allowed apparently, based on what the comms team was saying in some previous match anyway. I'm pretty sure they were not joking.

I dont mean that though.. the up and down nature of the workloads is gonna have an impact at some point. Wont be surprised if it does in the SA series.

dude i was counting on your late evening showers weather prediction and was looking forward to us winning :(
Tbh I didn't expect to lose an entire session yesterday. That one random wet spot on the ground may well be the difference between a result and a draw in this game. The forecast for Tuesday has also gotten worse as time has gone on.

I always think attributing failure (Australia are still ahead in this game BTW) to lack of mental strength is dubious. They just aren't used to being counter-attacked and resisted at every turn at home like the Indians have done in this series and India have had plenty of luck (well deserved given their pluck but they've had luck) in their last two batting innings. Think Australia's attack has a bit of predictability about it which occasionally makes it hard to put teams away once they've got on top.

Lyon is not a spinner who'll ever run through a tail, for instance. Cummins' and Hazlewood's greatest strength are their impeccable line, length and control but they'll only rarely blow teams away like Steyn or Waqar. Starc was off radar (and has been since second innings Sydney) which is a recurring theme of his Test career.

also wonder if the training regimen is different for t20 vs tests

as in preparing for explosiveness vs endurance

wonder if that could be a reason for muscle injury issues during a long test tour
