4th Match - India v Pakistan

viriya

International Captain
He's not coasting on his Test brilliance, he's coasting on being a ****ing talented batsman, which the selectors are clearly using their eyes and some of his performances to see.
Which would be fine it was consistent. No such trust in guys like Rohit for Tests or Pujara for ODIs.

He's not 'coasting' on past performances. He looks the real deal. Thats why they keep picking him. Selectors using their eyes and not statsguru.

And even if he was 'coasting', it would be on his ODI performances in England and IPL. Not Test form.

So ridiculous to suggest dropping Rahane or saying that Dhawan is better.
Well, it's not ridiculous to say Dhawan is better tbf. Dhawan's slightly underrated in ODIs.

Agree that it's ridiculous to drop Rahane though. Viriya would make a **** indian selector.

Another thing to note is that he hasn't even done that well in List A ODIs.. You could make a case that he's similar to Pujara who excels in Tests but hasn't done as well in ODIs, but Pujara actually has an amazing domestic ODI record which Rahane doesn't. Why wasn't Pujara given more than 5 matches to prove himself?
Rahane's been excellent in T20's where Pujara struggled. Rahane's been inconsistent, but you only need to watch him bat to know that if he gets enough chances he'll correct the stats. It doesn't help that he batted at 4 during the NZ tour, Rahane is strictly opener for ODI's. His checked shots are more deliberate than lack of timing.

Rohit was carried for ages in ODIs based on talent. He was **** for an insufferably long period of time.

Agree about him in Tests and Pujara in ODIs though.

I dont think anyone is saying that Rohit being kept out of the Test XI so long or Pujara not getting a decent ODI run was a good decision. So why you are arguing that is beyond me.

Its like you are saying "rohit and pujara were treated poorly so Rahane should be treated poorly too!". Which is an utterly ridiculous argument.

I love Pujara, but he currently does not have the power game needed to accelerate the innings once he gets a start. Rahane's a much more complete batsmen in limited overs.

have the rules for the batting powerplay changed? Or does it have to be taken by the 35th over or it become mandatory?

I want Dhoni in next, really want him to just free up and smash it without having to worry about getting out.

Rahane has not been picked before for the ODI side, had to fight for his spot and was the best batsman in the side in the warm-ups.

He also is far more likely to carry his offensive LO game across conditions to Australia compared to the 35 other Indian domestic bats with better LO records in India.

Man I have to say one thing, Dhawan's shots are seriously ***y when they come off. Just Ridiculous

These two have been excellent with their running, singles and placement when they do decide to play an aggressive shot. These are what proper ODI innings should be like.

No way... it's just 29 overs.
Um, India have 9 wickets in hand, besides a wicket hasn't fallen. I just want him to come in next because he's good enough to play a 50 off 20 type innings, which he doesn't do because he has to wait until the last 5 overs or w/e because of not many batters to come or whatever other reason. Today's the perfect opportunity for Dhoni the destroyer.
