3rd Test at Headingley, Leeds

Australia need to get both these guys out within the first hour IMO, tail are good enough to bat around a set batsman.

Should have held back on the 2nd new ball in hindsight

Crims have given us an opening here by trying to be too aggressive with the new ball and blow England away before lunch. Gun to my head still back them to win though.

If Australia lose this, that 2nd new ball bowling will be up there with Devon Malcolm in 5th Test in SA in 95/96 as the worst match-defining new ball bowl balling in memory.

Just startling how much Hazelwood & especially Pattinson lost the plot considering how well Oz have bowled in this series until then.

Cummins & Lyon pulled it back a bit but if England get the target down to under 100 without another wicket, they're favourites.
Lol if Australia lose this they didn’t lose it by bowling eight bad overs today ffs. They’ll have lost it by not finding a way to make 300 plus in their second dig.

Credit to England. Did much better than I expected that session and now are in a position where they can win, but Australia certainly can still win. The third possible result is not the draw but perhaps a tie

I mean it didn't help. Obviously not having an extra 50 runs on the board cut the margin of error but had they bowled as well as they did they'd have conceded 30 runs less and probably taken another wicket.

Failing to defend 360 against this batting line-up with this attack would be criminal

Agree Australia are still favourites. Probably will have to bowl Lyon from one end as hard to trust Pattinson again after that last spell. But Cummins still very difficult to get runs off so if they start with him post-lunch, the momentum should change back.

I wouldn't count on Woakes scoring many considering how badly he's struggled against the short ball in this series. Archer has a good FC record but will never have faced anything near the quality of this attack, maybe he can slog a few boundaries can't expect much more than that.

These two and Buttler have to get England within 40 to have a chance.
