3rd Test at Headingley, Leeds

Well at least we’ve improved our chances from shortly after lunch this afternoon. Would be interesting if we get to say 230-5 at lunch, but my money is on a lollapse shortly after the new ball is taken.

So as soon I stop being able to watch we start playing well. Not going to get any hopes up just as long as Root goes on and gets his ton at least.

Totaly expected the worst when I woke up and checked the score this morning........very pleasant surprise to see we've dug in and at least making a fight of it.

As others have said it's still a mountain to climb so I've no expections/hope of a win..........just be happy if we take the game close and Root makes a ton.

Oh yeah, Broad and Archer have also been excellent.

I really am becoming a fan of Stokes though, would balance England's side perfectly if they had some good batsmen in the top order.
He’s an exceptional player.

Might England have scored more in that last hour? I don’t think Australia were devastated to see them playing for close after 70 overs in the field. When will the runs come if not then?

I guess their plan is to wear the bowlers down long enough that their lower order can contribute. Either that or they’re doing penance. Stokes seems properly haunted by that first innings dismissal.

Would Stokes be a good captain d y reckon? Personally think Jos Buttler would be a great captain but his test place is not secure at all at the moment.

Tbf the last 10-15 overs was probably as intense as the innings got from a bowling pov. Haze’s spell was ridiculous

Yeah you’re probably right. Australian attack has been awesome all game. Maybe they really do just need to survive for 100+ overs before the scoring opportunities start coming.

The difference could well turn out to be the rubbish England served up on the first day during the century partnership. Over four an over there was sloppy to say the least.

If we could have scraped together an extra 50 in the first dig then this would have been brilliantly set up.

200 more is just too many from the rest of this lineup.

Root's dropped catch must've cost at least 50 runs.

The Australian quicks have been relentless. I think we did well to make it through the last hour losing just the one wicket.

Norwood's on Fire
Another 50-60 from Root
50 from Stokes
30 from Bairstow
30 from Buttler
20 from Woakes
15 from Archer
15 from Broad

Job done, Leach can put his feet up

Looks like a high-class day of cricket. Kudos to these two and Denly, fought harder than any batsman not named Smith (or maybe Labuschagne) throughout the series.

The new ball will be very interesting. This reminds me somewhat of Day 4 Adelaide in the last Ashes where Root and Malan fought really hard that evening but the rest of the batting folded the day after. England probably lacked Ben Stokes though (I also feel like we've bowled better yesterday than we did that day).

I wasn't expecting this scoreline when I woke up this morning. England have clearly cheated to get to close only 3 down. Surely they'll do the right thing tomorrow morning and fold for not many to make up for whatever it is they've done today.
