I like him, but I do kind of feel that slow but battling fifties whilst the rest of the team fails around him, whilst creditable in themselves, might be the most he has to offer in this format
Yeah, this innings looks better because the rest of the team was so poor, it's not 1980 anymore. With that said, the fact that the Perera's exist make a guy like Karunatne possibly valuable in the right circumstance.

Yeah fair point. But SL will likely need an anchor most games this tournament

This was very reminiscent of Ridley Jacobs in '99 and what do you know they're the only 2 instances of people carrying the bat in a world cup

NZ should be very happy with the fielding effort, given standards had dropped a bit in the last season or so.

Good seeing Baz again...what a man. Hopefully he will be in the BC's setup soon. Him as head coach, sanga as batting coach, bond as bowling coach. Pure fantasy lol. Imagine the payout.

By the way, really impressed with Sanga's ability to analyze and break down batting techniques. Obviously he's one of the best of all time but to be able to communicate it the way he does on commentary, suggests he can communicate it out of the box as well.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Cardiff. I recorded the 1999 WC game between NZ and Australia. If I had nothing on of an evening, I liked to pop the tape in, pour myself a brandy, light up a Cuban cigar and bask in the glory of the all star Aussies getting taken down by Allott, Twose and Cairns.

Why is Kumar's accent so different to every other Sri Lankan player? Imran Khan was the same - A certain upbringing i gather?
Some speculation here: I spent the initial few years of my life in Colombo (my dad's work brought him there) in the mid eighties, there was a lot of British and American television around - we had access to cartoons and the likes of Sesame Street which was all unheard of in India. By the time we did move back to India, I had an accent developed from watching all that TV (which wore off eventually) . Wonder if television viewing habits plus his career as a lawyer might explain Sanga's accent.

SL fans feel free to unleash your greater wisdom here.

These two should make it a goal to chase it down. Poor Kane and ross have had to come out early way too much in recent times.
