2nd semi-final: India vs England | Providence

Brook's side

International Regular
I might even be tempted to send in a night watchman for Buttler against Bumrah.

Got to be some way of dressing it up as attacking cricket.

On the contrary, India's batting is dependent on what we get in lottery with Rohit and Surya. Bowling bar Bumrah and Kuldeep is cod ordinary.
Yes but by balance of probability you have guys like Kohli and Pant who are likely to deliver atleast once now.

if bumrah and kuldeep go for 60 off their 8 overs, eng have to go at 10 an over for 12 overs to get a competitive total

they have jos, salt and brook who can reliably do it

50/50

Kohli should be dropped. He is a legend of T20 cricket but his game was built on playing most of the overs and finishing the games off. In the new scheme, Rohit seems to have no place for a player who would do this and in the process pick up 2-3 PotM awards and be among the leading run getters. Rohit doesn't care for stars, he wants batters to just go bang bang and help the team win. I can get behind that approach personally. I just don't think Kohli fits in this scheme. Asking him to open and slog in powerplay is pointless; there must be better options to give that role to.

kohli should be batting at 5 or 6 as an insurance if the fast scorers fail

hope he does it in odis at least
I was gonna say the same thing.

Plus him batting at 5/6, he might do a better job in the finishing overs than Jadeja and co.

They just need to have the courage to tell him that they will send him in -according to the situation.

Would be such a good and destructive top 4 but ****s in the management don't have the guts to demote Kohli.

I'd back at least one of the openers to come off in most games and give a great start, which is what India has been lacking most tournament.

Look at Buttler and Salt. At least one of them comes off, if not both, in most games.

But this is all fantasy talk. No changes to anything will be made.

One major issue with Kohli is that even when he hits a boundary or a six, he doesn't look to "take on" the next delivery. He either follows it up with dots or looks for a single, rather than going bang bang bang. Look at how Rohit just attacked every delivery of Starc's over, you'll never see Kohli attack more than a couple of balls in the over. Plus he doesn't seem to have the range of aggressive shots either.

Maxwell benched himself in IPL. Can't this guy come to his senses and demote himself as there are better options for the top order.

Hardik has looked hopeless with the ball when I've watched him this tourney. And Jadeja looks woefully out of rhythm.
He's been useful everytime he's bowled cutters into the pitch. Too bad he still fancies himself a Caribbean pacer what with all the time he's spent in Pollard's company.

Well, Rohit himself said the top 2 are not open to discussion but everyone else's position is fair game. The hubris in that statement...it's like even yesterday's rebels invariably and inevitably morph into bastions of desi babudom.

Funny how the team that has won all its games pretty comfortably seems to have some selection issues, whilst the one that has fumbled its way through to the semis now seems to have the 11 all sorted.
