Totally separate question , is Kallis really not a top 10 batsman though, or at least not in that discussion? Is it that his record doesn't stack up, or did we (and me to a point) just didn't like the way he batted?
I think he is. Or definitely top 15. Which is comparable to top 10 bowlers because in a playing XI you typically have 6 batsmen and 4 bowlers.

Now if you'd be so kind as to find out what entry has his latest ratings, great!

True but we generally accept that ATG fast bowlers are probably more valuable than ATG batsmen of similar-ish stature? That's why I think Imran's primary value>Kallis. Do think Imran is underrated by most as a pure bowler anyway, think he's arguably top 5.

Interesting to compare the bowling attacks based on the above:

1st XI
Hadlee
Steyn
Barnes
Murali
Sobers

2nd XI
Marshall
McGrath
Imran
Warne
Kallis

Further to that, how the whole First and Second XIs would look - noting that we don't need to worry about all-rounders as Sobers and Kallis cover that anyway. And picking the two 'keepers I would just generally pick in my own XIs:

1st XI
Hobbs
Hutton
Bradman
Smith
Lara
Sobers
Gilchrist
Hadlee
Steyn
Barnes
Murali

2nd XI
Sutcliffe
Gavaskar
Sangakkara
Tendulkar
Barrington
Kallis
Imran
Knott
Marshall
Warne
McGrath

This depends on level of non-farziness in secondary skill, for me, most of all.

Imran's batting has some farziness attached but he was a sturdy lower order batsman at test level for a long time and his batting is better than Kallis's 1.5 wpm weaker team bashing bowling.

Bowlers are more valuable. But a single batting AR is probably better than a single bowling AR as it gives you a stack of options on how to balance the team. Not sure who was the more valuable to the team tbh, if we exclude the fact that Kallis played a lot more, which is injuries and era related.

Not sure value is the best measure either. Few players have been more valuable than Ashwin for example, who while underated, I dont regard as one of the greatest.

First one is an interesting point and I believe somewhat true, to the extent that you can't win if you can't bowl out the other team twice.
Additionally, and I can't prove this, but always felt like great bowlers impact great batsmen more than the reverse. And only the truly special batters tend to dominate the great bowlers. Of that makes any sense.

Re Imran, I have him anywhere between 7th and 9th. But if you believe he's better than Ambrose, Steyn and co, then yes, You can argue he is top 5.
