I still think he's better with the new ball too. The only area of cricket Lakmal is better at is being able come back and break middle overs partnerships. Kula's theoretical batting ability would make it easier to play an extra bowler as well.
Lakmal/Kula is a toss-up atm imo. What boggles the mind is picking a test-match opener for the middle order.. Definition of a useless selection.

England have enough - even if one of the Big 3/4 go big, SL have to bat perfectly to get anywhere close.

I wouldn't actually be that against it in all seriousness. But it makes no sense to have Buttler at eight. If Bopara was still playing maybe you could justify it.
I think it'd be more something to consider if Moeen didn't exist and England were looking for a way to get their fifth bowler in. England don't have a shortage of middle overs cake or a batting/bowling balance problem at the moment though.

Buttler got to bat 6, Ravi back at 7.
Yeah I've always been in favour of that. But you could maybe use Woakes at five and slide them down (it wouldn't really effect Buttler as he'd still have a proper batsman coming after him so that licence to go big early which he doesn't have at the moment). I realise absolutely no one would be behind that though and I'm not even sure I would myself but it's something to think about if Woakes proves a good bat in tests.

Good thing we have Dimuth to help with getting 300+. Great pick.

if he scores runs, you'll be singing his praises till the cows come home, careful you dont get splinters jumping over from each side of that fence continually lol..

Good example would probably be when we had Morgan, Kieswetter, Bresnan as 5-7. You could make a genuine case that if Woakes was playing instead of Bresnan he could bat five.

mate i know you love ur stats but the fact is that UT has only just arrived in the country and hasnt had any time to acclimatise to the wickets. I agree that he is a better ODI player than Dimuth, however he will need some time to get used to the wickets..
