If you told me five years ago that someone would one day advocate Kula's selection over someone else because he's better at the death despite being worse up front, I'd have thought they you were mad.

I'm not saying you're wrong; it's just an interesting turnaround for Kula who used to be an awesome new ball bowler who struggled at the end.

It's a bit like the turnaround in arguments Samaraweera ended up in before and after that career-defining tour of South Africa.
It's marginal, Kula isn't much better, but he has a calmer head than Lakmal who gets flustered way too easily and that's the worst thing at the death.

how many times have to seen lakmal get flustered like this? I havent ever seen it..Kula was a good bowler for us but he now servesup striaght balls at 115-120k's which will get clobbered...

That was a perfect England ODI innings. **** the people who hate the plan.

Now need to keep it tight early and take regular wickets with the quicks in the middle and it's the perfect England performance.

I still think he's better with the new ball too. The only area of cricket Lakmal is better at is being able come back and break middle overs partnerships. Kula's theoretical batting ability would make it easier to play an extra bowler as well.
