Lol @ people carrying on like the small boundaries at Eden Park are something new...They're not!

More ODIs (68) have been played there than any other NZ ground & there's only been 6 scores of more than 300, so small boundaries or not, it doesn't have a history of ridiculous scores at all. So talk of scores of 400 & about players getting double ton just shows ignorance.
Well they are kind of new. Ground remodelled and pitch re-aligned. Although that may be amost 10 years ago now.

Used to get rewarded for a leg glance or thick edge, now a maximum for the safest shot in the book is only 55 metres away. Edit: actually it's 55 metres plus 22 yards so need to clear about 75 metres for a straight 6. Ok, that's possibly better than the 50 metre leg glance of the old alignment. Now it's a 50 metre top edge or ramp that's the gimme.

Waqar Younis used to have to shorten his run up so he didn't start from behind the boundary. True story.

Nah it's not, but the boundaries are hilariously short. It's actually quite good for the spectators as you are extremely close to the pitch, crap for the players, though, but screw them.

Wouldn't put it past us to win this relatively meaningless group stage game and then lose to Aus if/when we play them again some time in the knockouts.

No one said they were new though.

No harm in speculating what will happen, it's not unreasonable to suspect some players will enjoy the boundaries more than others. Shave some of the edge off buddy.
Nothing to do with being edgy mate, "Ignorance" is just a lack of knowledge. So those jumping in with talk of 400+ scores & double tons clearly haven't done their homework on the history of ODIs at this ground.

I'm merely pointing out that the short boundaries in this case don't necessarily translate into massive totals.

No condescension intended. :)

Even prior to the re-modelling, the ground was always tiny, just smaller in other areas than today. In the 80s/early 90s, it was always known as a left-handers ground as the leg-side boundaries for left-handers were only about 45 meters at the shortest distance.

So again- the short boundaries are nothing new, even if the dimensions have changed slightly,

You'd say that this match will probably decide top spot in the group so it does have a bit riding on it tbf.

Agree, and some psychological points. Not so much if it's a really close game, but if one side dominates, the psychological points will count for something.

With India beating Sth Africa top spot may not mean much of an advantage. Both Australia and NZ may prefer India in the semis should they advance past quarter final stage. Just a thought

Finishing top could mean playing Ireland in the quarters though.

From a NZ POV, I honestly don't care whether we get India or SA in a semi (if we make it that far), provided we get a relatively easy quarter final. And I think both Aust & NZ (regardless of who finishes 1st & 2nd) will get that provided SA don't get beaten again and end up 3rd or 4th.. that would concern me.

Yeah, Ireland would be ideal, followed by Pakistan & then the Windies.

As I said prior, I'll be more worried if SA drop another game or two... and qualify 3rd or 4th as opposed to 2nd.

I agree Zinzan and the shorter boundaries occasionally get batsmen out because the temptation is there to hit a good delivery for six.
