Great shot from Travis Muller, the Nightwatchman, to be dismissed before the close of play. The having to open the bowling with spinners due to bad light didn't turn out so badly for CD, aye.

Dudding has been quite impressive this match. For some reason we seem to have a heap of inswing bowlers in NZ cricket now.

Also congrats to Van Beek, impressive match.

I've got a half baked theory that right arm inswing was heavily discouraged in the pre-drs era and we'll see more and more of it over the coming decades

It's not a bad theory - one to watch.

I certainly like NZ to always have at least one fast bowler who moves the ball away from the left hand batter.

That, and ever since Stuart Broad discovered that all left handers secretly suck to right-arm around the wicket, it's possible that in-swing might now be seen as a significantly more valuable skill.

It takes a while for these things to seep through to junior coaching too. As a youngster I was a left armer with a natural outswinger to RHers. Totally ruined my action trying to bowl inswing because every coach told me to.

I've though fimor a while now that Chris Martin atrociously mis-timed his career. He basically spent a decade stifling his natural inswing.
oof yes. Would've been an absolute weapon if bowling right arm around the wicket with the new ball to lefties wasn't illegal back then.

Absolutely. He used to swing it big, too, with the white ball but couldn't control it.

That's what baffled me about Bumrah in the 2nd Test last month, he started over to Conway after having him on toast before that. I don't know a LH top order bat who likes the shape of anyone moving it away from them, with the odd that goes straight with skill or happenstance.

There are surely few worse ways to get out than holing out to a long hop from a part-time spinner with 5 men around the bat as a nightwatchman.

Wags just smoked Henry for a couple of bombs over midwicket after getting him to fall for Wagnerball in the first innings. Clearly wants Henry's place in the test side.

... and then your captain sends in a 2nd night watchman, which means Chu (85 in first innings, lots of time batting with #10, missed on a possible century by attacking with #11 at the other end) comes out at #9 in 2nd innings ...

He should consider himself lucky the second nightwatchman didn't get out as well and prompt the promotion of a third one.

They didn't have a third one I'm afraid. Were already stretching it with Muller and his FC average for Otago of 25; now Zac Cumming who batted #7 ahead of the keeper at the U19 WC is to come in at #11.

#9 Chu now 2nd innings top scorer at 19*. At least he won't need to panic when joined by today's #11 Cumming who is fresh off a 72 (79) batting at #7 for Otago A last week.

Fisher doing a solid Wagner impression to leave Canterbury on the ropes. Very timely given Latham's presence.

Lol, not a great day for NZ's top order

Conway 28
Latham 26
Ravindra 0
Mitchell 39

Still, a real chance for Blundell to make a big statement about why he still belongs in the BCs.
