ODT reports Max Chu will be out for the rest of the season to have an operation on a groin injury that's been annoying him for some time.
Interesting, I wonder whether it's with an eye on potentially being available for the Zimbabwe tour. I guess Otago will have to do with McLachlan or Pomare heading down to keep for the rest of the season cc @Immenso.

Wellington A vs. CD A is taking place just down the road. I might pop in for a look during my lunch break tomorrow. Some familiar names playing, but some I've not heard of.

Did you go?

All familiar names in that Wgtn A side except opener Morgan who got a hundred. Any idea who he is? Who does he play for?

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
McLachlan hitting 75 off 34 makes you wonder if there was a reason Wellington persisted with him in the Ford Trophy even though he didn't perform

Not yesterday. I’ll watch half an hour or so today. Joey Field rocking the headband which is always a winner with me. Not so nice for viewing today with a fair dose of the Wellington wind.

Edit: Very gusty - the bails just blew off. Tricky for the quicks I reckon.

Edit 2: Morgan just hit his first ball for an effortless leg side flick for six. NZC website wrong - first over was 4.2… not 4.1…

Morgan just hit a nice easy cut for 4 too. This all assumes NZC has the right players listed as batting. Definitely Field bowling from one end.

I have heard of Morgan, though I'd forgotten about it until I looked him up (my excuse being that it's a relatively common name). I think it's Sam Morgan who plays for Upper Hutt. He's in decent form having racked up a double-ton in two-day cricket a couple of weeks ago (226* off 162). Dunno how old he is, but he looks pretty young. Another ton for Wellington A today - puts some of the erratic Wellington top order batting under some pressure.

You’d have to think that if Xavier Bell goes big here again for ND A he might be in line for a first class debut to end the season.

Back to back 100’s for Hamilton and a massive 180 for ND A last week. The kid is piling on some massive runs.
151 today. I'm trying to think of some other 18 yr old batsmen who have debuted in recent times. Maybe Jacob Cumming. Kane obviously debuted when he was still 17. Going further back I think Taylor, Ryder, McMillan and McCullum debuted at 18.

Finn Allen was 18. Greg Todd, I think might have been 18 or 19? Carl Cachopa was 18. That's just off the top of my head

I think Severin may be a busted flush and Greenwood isn't quite making the spot his own. So if this guy Morgan is any good (and twin hundreds is a great start) it'd be nice to see him get a go.

It wasn’t just that he scored two tons, but the stuff I watched was pretty pleasing to the modern eye. Looked in control against Field, who has the most pedigree in that CD A attack. Gotta think that should have earned him a go.

A few interesting changes for this round. Freddy Walker dropped for Gulati; debuts for 20yo Otago left-arm seamer Thomas O'Connor and 22yo Auckland batter Nathan Robinson. Jack Boyle dropped after a poor FC season. Stackpole opening.

Stackpole opening is an interesting move, in good form but a completely different role as lower order hitter (or rescuer) in the Ford Trophy.
