2024–25 NZ domestic season

Gulati has some similarities to Ajaz in trajectory, drift and seam presentation.

Also accurate like Ajaz.
Interestingly Ajaz wasn't actually very accurate. Being a short finger spinner the stereotype is that you make up for your lack of physical advantages with accuracy and guile, but the pitchmaps didn't actually back that up. He's such a weird bowler because it's hard to piece together how he was so successful in domestic cricket where the wickets gave him nothing, and then useless in internationals outside of ragging pitches.

I can only conclude that captaincy played a fair role - his FC economy is pretty high for a finger spinner, so he actually prefers to be used as an aggressive bowler, while NZ test captains can't fathom a finger spinner being anything but a holding bowler outside of asia.

This has been a really good return by Clarkson too. I'm sure he's capable of a lot better at international level than he's shown so far, so hopefully he'll get another shot one day. Jacobs might leapfrog him, though.

Bruce is too good for this level. Shame he hasn't ben able to get a proper go in internationals.
Similar for Cleaver must be frustrating to be so near international level and yet so far. Tbf both did get a handful of NZ chances... Sometimes that's all you get.

Hope you're right about Clarkson, but I get the feeling he's another Tom Bruce in terms of domestic dominance without quite being able to step up to the next level.

I see Westlake's Jordan van Zyl won NZ Young Player of the Year in March. Family immigrated to NZ about 18 months ago. Was top run scorer at last years Gillette Cup.

Under 19 tournament underway. I see van Zyl got a ton before being run out. Not enough for Akl to get up against Wellington.
