Ray Phillips on the QLD stream has to be the worst commentator in the country. Michael Slater on drugs could do better.

Konstas also needs some Shield runs next week as his FC average has now dropped to 37.21. That one great shield game where he scored twin centuries seems a real long time ago now

Maybe just maybe it might not have been such a brilliant idea to throw a player into Test cricket based of such a small sample size

A novel thought, I know

I agree generally speaking but I think it was a good call with Konstas as he gave the top of our innings a flying start whereas before we were bogged down. No criticism intended of McSweeney as he had a rough start to tests. Plus Konstas upset the Indians and made them look like the bad guys. He changed momentum for us and perceptions of India. The guy has got different games and gears and is a good option for us right now without being an automatic selection.

Nah it's more that I really don't think this is good for his longterm development as a player. No doubting that MCG innings definitely had a big impact on the game, but the sheer level of scrutiny that will follow him (and the kneejerk reactions from "fans", both positive and negative) is a massive weight that I really wouldn't want to burden any cricketer of that level of experience with

It's not even so much about Konstas himself solely as much as it is about the whole concept of fasttracking cricketers into international (especially Test) cricket, which is something I can never support in the slightest

Honestly if his career has a bit of a negative reaction to being picked it would be a worthwhile sacrifice for winning the India series, assuming it had that much of an influence which I can see the argument for

I don't there's a problem with him getting picked. Whereas I do with JFM. Konstas was in form and has the game to play traditionally or inventively. He was in form and there was a vacancy so let him have a go. It's more important how they treat him now and play him when they think the game suits him and protect him when they think he'll struggle; or there are better options. Being in and out of a side might dick around an older player but a young player is more accepting of that treatment as it's reflective of his level of development.

I mean he averaged 30 on two pretty rancid pitches while opening and handelled bumrah better than anyone not named t head. Travis H set a pretty high standard anyway.

Have to think Tassie, with two cheaters coming into the team, are well-placed to win from here

I think pretty much the exact opposite of this tbqh. The way I see it, older players who have already been few some highs and some lows in their career so are better equipped imo to deal with this sort of thing, where as those who really haven't played very much professional cricket at all will be more likely to second guess themselves on exactly what is needed to have succees

Although that being said, it is something that will vary from player to player
