2024–25 Australian Domestic Season

He’s a much better player than Harris, Renshaw or Bancroft

Just lost his way for a couple of seasons after being dumped for no reason
He was pretty shabbily treated IMO but he lost his way before that - at the exact wrong time actually.

Lol let's not forget that KPat was actually terrible for a couple years and rightfully dropped from the Shield side. He also wasn't entitled to a Test spot after 1 game as a replacement where he bullied a hapless touring Sri Lankan attack. He wasn't treated unfairly by anyone.

He’s had a strange career path

Scored a ton on fc debut then didn’t play again for 2 years

Scored a ton in his 2nd test and hasn’t been picked again after looking bad in a couple of Ashes warmup games

Lucky still to have a state contract and is now the form batsman in the country

I've always rated Patterson over the likes of Handscomb and thought he should've had a longer run in the test team, but after the last two years he shouldn't be considered for tests until he has a season of form under his belt.

100% agree with the first part

Will still always disagree on his 2019 Ashes omission considering on the basis that it wasn't for Smith as is sometimes claimed, it was for the complete and utter waste of everyones time that was the Matthew Wade test recall. Him and Marnus from memory both dropped out of the XI but Marnus was at least kept on as the reserve bat in the wider squad (which did end up working out alright tbf) where as Patterson was tossed aside entirely. Then he got injured at the start of the next domestic season, it was only on return from that iirc that the prolonged lean spell started

So basically, Patterson > Wade

Also, don't think it's the worst idea to try Jason Sangha for a couple overs here

If he even can bowl at the moment after that weird arm issue in the one day game that is

I still can't figure out why Hardie has only played 1 shield match this year? I can't find anything online about being injured?

Shield batting is seriously difficult at the moment so I really don't think dropping him or Hughes for Gilkes or Nikataris was ever actually a good idea, but yeah people looking at his record and saying wtf do often miss the context of all that.

I had such high hopes for Oliver Davies and Jack Clayton this year. But they've basically got the same crappy stats

Davies - 329 runs @ 32.90, HS 88, 2 50's
Clayton - 323 runs @ 32.30, HS 91, 2 50's
