Didn't see the game but followed some of while at work.

A lot of big teams have gone out and I really thought we were next. Didn't see the penalty incident but James deserves as she gets for that stamp.

Colombia or Jamaica up next for us. Let's hope we do a lot better than today.

Don't think I'd class it as a 'stamp', more a tread. The kind of thing that happened 5 times a game in the 70's.

The Ireland team arrived home from the world cup at the weekend.
6,000 people turned out to welcome them home. Feted by fans and eulogised in the Irish media for their stunning tournament.
Ireland played three matches, lost two and drew 0-0 and scored just the one goal.
Not much happens in Ireland when there are no moving statues and drunks taking their dead uncle to the post office to pick up his pension...

So England will play Colombia in their QF, which they'd have certainly taken at the start of the tournament. Colombia were certainly the better side against Jamaica and produced the one moment of magic for the goal.

That's 6 out of 7 group winners through now (and it'll probably be 7 out of 8 when France beat Morocco). Only Spain beating Switzerland upset that form, but the Switzerland Group was so weak it's probably not a great surprise.

One of the great mysteries, how on earth did Germany manage to get knocked out of their group by Morocco?

I think we can assume the final QF is Australia v France. Hard to know just how good the French are because the Moroccans have been atrocious so far.

The three goals in eight minutes were an incredible period of play by France.

Their quarter-final against Australia is probably the one I'm most looking forward to.

A bit reminiscent of Beckham 1998. Deservedly red carded for the stupidity of thinking she could get away with it.

i swear the resale site for the sydney game is crawling with bots given it's been probably a hundred times now i've snapped up tickets as they come only to then find they were immediately taken

So Spain through and Sweden 1 up on Japan. It's only the Japanese keeper who has stopped this game from being all over by h/t, surprised it's been so one sided.
