Hey this team just gets it done.

Aus dicked us in that recent friendly, so going to need to step it up a notch.

This England side remind me a bit of Germans men side, one decent performance, but look unimpressive, but are somehow in the semis and faves.
Interestingly the NZ TAB now has Spain slightly ahead of them and outright favourites (2.60 v 2.87).

Not unreasonably given the form of both sides. But I thought we played OK today actually; better than against Nigeria, for sure.

Spain would be a weird winner, with all the shenanigans, with some of their top players, but obviously they're technically brilliant and Putellas is a Modric type beautiful player.

Spain clambering ahead is presumably to do with the opposition they've overcome. I think it's hard to argue they've had a better tournament than England given their phone in against Japan in the groups. Still, here we are.

Being the 3rd placed favourite seems like a fairly consistent crashing out point, so eyes on Australia for it next?

I'm too mean to pay for whatever BT Sport is called nowadays.
I get it through EE and was paying a fiver a month for the big screen upgrade which allowed me to login on the firestick. Upgraded my phone in June and lost BT. Complained to EE and they added it back but the upgrade was gone. Figured I’d hold back the fiver big screen upgrade until the season started. Went to sort it today and discovered if I link my BT account with Discovery+ I get it for free. A wholesome tale.

I'll definitely be supporting whoever wins the Australia-England semi-final. It would be incredible if it was Australia, but I'll also get some good entertainment value out of England's women's team being the ones to ensure that "it's coming home".

Interested to know when the last time a sporting event in Australia united and captivated the nation like this. 2000 Olympics?

Women keepers aren’t great but I also think that the guy who says the goals should be smaller has a point as they simply can’t cover the same area as a man
We was talking about this at my club yesterday during tea. I've always said this as through no fault of their own women are naturally inches smaller than men. But then a guy in my team said but then Japan and China men's team also have smaller goals as their average height is smaller too

Main objection in Australia was cost of changing goals for different games at club level

Also an argument for reducing field size but that involves even more problems

People forget or ignore that women’s cricket is played with a lighter ball

It's not like the women's game is awash with goals so making the goal itself smaller feels like a retrograde step.
yeah it's this

shootout went to ten penalties and it finished 7-6: obviously that is anecdata, but across the board it's not like we're seeing a swathe of 9-7 scorefests due to the size of the goal and mickey mousing the integrity of the game

Yeah I don't get it either. If the matches were all 7-6, I might give it some credence, but that might be fun in itself. Actually considering the average height back when the goals were made, perhaps the mens should be bigger, but let's face it neither is happening.

As for Perry, there's no guarantee that she would have stayed in the Matildas side, injuries are more prevelant in football than cricket, and it's not like a defender in woman's football earns anything like in mens, think she easily made the right choice, she's got the Bash and IPL coming up, the coins still fairly big.

That's actually less than I'd have expected tbh.

I don't think she'll have long-term regrets but there will be a bit of 'what if' going on in her mind at the moment I'm sure. Will be more if they actually win.
what an interesting ponderance would be whether she’d actually get in the side now? I don’t remember much of her footballing prowess, she was obviously good but the game has come so far since then

She got picked when she was 16.

I don't really know heaps about their side but I find it hard to believe she'd have missed out in her prime if she made the opposite choice.
