the Arun Finch thing is just weird. It's like the Gades realised that having two old ****s in Marsh and Finch was actually bad and only one can play, and Finch has taken the bullet this season. I don't disagree with the Gades, but it seemed a pretty preventable problem!

anyway SOK should play next season

they had the required run rate at less than seven with two set bats at the crease. won't hear a word about the pitch or whatever that ignores the thunder's display of a collective iq that would get someone in the 1890s called what we now recognise are no-no words

I do hope Arun Finch manages to make a decent score in his last game tomorrow. Bloke has been a legendary LO player for Australia. And seems a really good bloke for a Victorian
pretty solid when he's on comms imho! genuine insight as to the broader game and the current players without being just there for the sake of it sorta thing

I can see what they were going for tbf. There was significant concerns a few years back that the talent pool was being so diluted that it was seriously devaluing the product because they were being forced to play junk grade cricketers just to fill numbers.

Whether that's improved is another matter.
It's probably got worse since the SA20 started. There's a significantly better quality of English cricketer in that comp than the BBL.

Not sure there's really been a detectable difference. The mediocre nobodies have been a feature for a good number of years now, and even the 'better' ones have often underperformed. For example, my memory of Will Jacks was that he was one of the worst specialist batsmen I'd ever seen. I don't know enough about his English form to determine whether it improved between 2021/22 BBL and his international call-up in late 2022, or if he simply played badly here, but when he played for Hobart he could barely get the ball off the square.

Harry Brook hardly set the world on fire in BBL either, but look at him now.

I get the mediocre English nobody is a BBL meme but it ignores how often a mediocre ‘nobody’ actually has a good year.

Evans wasn’t exactly knocking the door down for international selection but he’s been one of the most successful overseas players. Ian ****bain got his team to the finals. Harry Gurney won the Renegades a championship. David Payne won the tournament last year. Even Joe Denly had an impressive first season with the Sixers. And this year we have Paul Walter.

I’ll grant you for every one of those there is a Ross Whitely but he got signed because he has a good T20 record in England and had done well in the Hundred - exactly why Walter was signed. So he was out of form and didn’t get going in the BBL, that’s cricket.

Yeah I remember laughing at him for being Richard Ngarava’s bunny in that Zim ODI series but after that I just felt sorry for him, it’s been painful watching him bat the last couple of years. And he is a good commentator and seems like a decent guy.

He could bowl that stuff until he’s 60

Should also be one of the first chosen for the t20 WC as the pitches will suit him
there's precedent they picked Brad Hogg for the 2014 T20 WC as a 42 year old

I can't remember exactly how that went but he might have gotten injured or dropped because he only played the 1 game

Just watching highlights of the NZ vs Pakistan T20I. I reckon a BBL team should sign Azam Khan. Bring back the glory days of the likes of Dan Smith.

The new Perth Stadium is honestly better at being a traditional WACA pitch than the late era WACA was, that's vicious bounce there.
*Get's hit in head by ball that bounces viciously*
*Charges down the pitch next ball*

Gotta respect the balls on eskanazi.

Wasn't in the tests against NZ or WI. And I'm expecting a more turgid surface like that for India.
