2015 World Cup: 10 teams and no associates

gvenkat, You might want to use the word 'native'.

Still that argument is massively flawed.

It's not the associates themselves are the problem, It's the number of associates and a dragged out league format.

... They decided, for whatever reason, they had to back down on the associate embargo. Be that pressure from various boards, worldwide uproar, reading Cricket Web, it doesn't matter. They backed down. ...
If they had decided on 12 teams instead of 10, it would have been because of the immense esteem and awe in which the ICC honchos hold Cricket Web posters.

But 14 to me seems to be a clear case of 'we need at least 38 of the associates to vote for our constitutional amendment'.

The point I was trying to make was, Only the expats from India, Pak, SL and WI care about teh game there and not the cancuks or the Dutch
So? If they Canada improve, locals will start to take interest.

In Singapore for Table Tennis we have Chinese imports winning games for us and we managed a silver in the olympics. That raised huge interests for the sport and now we actually have good Singaporean table tennis players coming up. It does work.

As I told the number should be 12 and not 14.

Chinese imports in Singapore are more 'native' than Indian/Pakistani imports in Canada. But that's besides the point. For countries like the Netherlands and Canada, that are Football and IceHokey crazy respectively,it will be very hard to convince locals to take part in a sport that only people from the subcontinent play in their country.

I was just making my point in general, I agree in countries like Canada it is pretty hard to encourage locals to try it out, but maybe not so for other countries who aren't particularly obsessed/good at sports.

A pretty good decision. Wonder why they couldn't organize a qualification for the 2015 world cup itself.

To quote myself:

"I suppose we have one hope: the history of incompetence and indecision that runs deep into the ICC's past gives us hope for a reversal: there was, after all, no possible way that South Africa would be allowed to play in the 1992 tournament. This must be the hope that we cling to: the hope that the outcry from true supporters of cricket, not blinded by nationalistic self-interest, will prove loud enough to be heard."

To quote Kryten: "Ah, smug mode."

It all starts at the grassroots. Introduce it in schools, some kids WILL take it up seriously enough, let them grow, put THEM in Canada's team even if they are lesser skilled than Indians and Pakistanis just pretending to be Canadians.

Even if Indians&Pakistani's Canada wins the WC, the general public will just be turned off.

Speaking of "Quality games", doesn't everyone remember how awesome a match Australia vs New Zealand was at the World Cup?

I'm so happy I watched that rather than some predictable tripe like England vs Ireland.
How did that game turn out HZ?, it's always good to see the top teams like Australia and NZ play a close tight game, not a one sided game with an associate involved  ...
