20 Greatest ODIs (by ESPNCricinfo)

It was in the days when the BBC still televised one of the matches from each round. If you watched this live, it's always going to be hard to forget.
I was reminiscing the other day about how damned good (for county cricket) that mid-late 90s Lancashire seam attack was in one day matches. Wasim, Martin, Austin, Chapple, Watkinson, deFreitas in the early years, Freddie later on. They were always there or there abouts in the one day comps.

And yet that Surrey line up was arguable even stronger - Stewart, Thorpe, Butcher, Brown, Waqar, Bicknell, Lynch.

You can see why the Beeb televised that game, and a reminder that you simply never see teams that strong compete against each other anymore.

Funny you should say that, this match has always lived long in my memory for a similar reason. Surrey cruising to victory need 25 runs with 9 wickets remaining against Lancs, cue a Wasim inspired collapse.....they would only score another 18!! He may not have taken the wickets, but it was his spell that sparked it and he was impossible to score off (think he went for plenty early on in the innings).

LANCS vs SURR, Benson & Hedges Cup 1993, 1st Round at London, May 11, 1993 - Full Scorecard (espncricinfo.com)
Lol holy **** what a scorecard. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a scorecard like that before.

I watched 2 close matches today involving WI

1. Chanderpaul 10 runs of last 2 balls vs VAAS
2 . First ODI Match of 2003 WC between WI vs SA .

Yeah, I remember it happening at the time. All-time choke by my boys, but at least it was in the first round. You'd hate to lose a semi-final or final like that. It wasn't a bad Surrey side, but we were much better a few years later when Adam Hollioake was captaining and Saqlain and Salisbury were carrying out the spinners' duties. Without checking, I don't think we'd won anything for ages by 1993. Perhaps the main one-day cup in 1982, but nothing else since the early 1970s. Lancashire otoh won loads, and it showed in this match. It took Hollioake to bring about a winning mentality. Mind you, the quicks in the 1993 line-up were stronger, tbf.

Number 1 should be India vs Australia 7th odi from the 2013 series which had a lot of meme value (like dhawan mocking Watson's hamstring injury).

In fact you could make a case the entire top 3 should be matches from that series (kohli Rohit chasing 360 in a canter, and the Faulkner vs Ishant Sharma game)

Who the **** cares about world cups
WAC, I posted this earlier
