1st Match - Pakistan v New Zealand

Moss

International Captain
Just saw on CricInfo:

"Pakistan are 213 for 7. At the same stage of their innings, New Zealand were 215 for 4."

That surprises me. Guess it shows how great Phillips and Latham were at the death.
This kept coming up but IMO it doesn't tell the story of how NZ built pressure (and hence got those wickets) where Pakistan didn't.

Young may not have been blazing away but he kept the score moving along enough that Pakistan weren't able to really exert total control. Babar on the other hand - yes he was the one holding things together but he could have done a bit more to reverse the momentum. Tricky pitch and situation yes, but I can't help feeling a batsman of his class shouldn't be getting tied down by Bracewell game after game.

I definitely wouldn't lay the blame squarely on him, Pakistan's top order just seemed caught in the headlights with Fakhar's injury.

We have to be the favourites to win the Champions Trophy now, if we keep playing Pakistan, unfortunately we have to play some other teams as well.

Blaming Fakhar getting out on Babar

Fakhar was batting slower than Babar ffs. Babar had a SR of 70 and had 35 runs when Fakhar got out, and was going at a run a ball during the partnership. He slowed down again after Babar got out.
Run rate was 2 an over while chasing 320 before Fakhar came in.

Babar shouldn't be opening the batting if he cannot score quickly in the powerplay.

That average of 56 doesn't count for anything if he cannot step up in games like this.

Mental midgetry to still defend an innings like this. ODI GOAT's average is all that matters tho so all good I guess...

I wouldn't blame it completely on Babar but it's hard to deny that he didn't put his best foot forward towards winning the game, and was probably contributing negatively to the run chase like Fakhar, Rizwan and Shakeel.

so after all that buildup i didn't even know CT was starting today.

Seems like a shitshow from the Pakistan top order. NZ and India should coast through.

A bit hard to make out what Rizwan was saying at the presentations but I don't think he blamed Babar for losing that game, it wasn't his fault.

UAE..

India will play all their games in the UAE the only team that won't travel to different destinations
Soft

India and Pakistan have played each other in World Cup matches in England and Australia so I don't know why they can't play each other at home.

People make out like WW3 would break out but it's not like it's Ukraine vs Russia or Palestine vs Israel, it's just a cricket game at the end of the day.

Everyone thinks India didn’t want to play in Pakistan for security reasons, turns out the dastardly so and sos were just trying to stop us scoring 800 in an innings

So good to watch a format of the game where the best team wins, because they can exhibit their skills for a longer period of time. 50 over cricket is still massively relevant in my eyes, as is the CT, World Cup or any other ODI tournament (bring back the Commonwealth Bank and VB series')

There is still a place for ODIs, you can get swings in momentum like the match tonight, it's like a one day test match,. there is no room for that in T20s.
