1999 World Cup Final...............scandal????

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Umm this thread isn't really heading any where. Also, in the 90s, after so many matches, people said the games were fixed. Until there is proof, I don't see the point in speculating x was fixed or y was not fixed.

In fairness, I think this thread is a little more like BhupinderSingh v Rest of the World
But remember last time they had one of those Super Series, Rest of the World lost quite comprehensively.

I've been sorting through loads of old VHS tapes of old films from the 90's. On one of the tapes from 1999 there is a short Channel 5 news headlines programme.
The main headline of the day centres around the 1999 World Cup Final and a suggestion that Pakistan threw the match, there is even an interview with Wasim Akram refuting the allegations. I remember little about the game other than it finishing about 2pm after a very low Pakistan total which included Inzy getting a bad decision from umpire David Shephard.
Until I saw this old news summary I had no idea that any such suggestion had been made.:surprise:
There was a scandal going around at the time as to whether or not it was fixed, as such i still believe at least 2 of the pakistan games in that world cup were fixed but that is rather irrelevant. I cant see why anyone would fix a game as important as the final of the world cup, but then again when it comes to Wasim Akram, i can never trust anything that hes ever done especially after the match fixing judge claims that he had a 'soft spot' for him.

Just like we should discuss allegations that Mark Waugh and Shane Warne match fixed and the possibility that the Aussies may have thrown the 1994 Australia v Pakistan test at Karachi ? :D
why not? i wouldn't have any issue with that!!! open up a thread for it!!! For the record I reckon that there was definately something dicey going on

Ah yes, but they weren't playing against BhupinderSingh ;)

Saeed Anwar changing his bat-grip cost Pakistan any chance of winning that WC.

I've noticed a distinct Asia vs Rest of the World vibe on CW in recent times and I wish it would stop.
At least Pakistanis and Indian board members aren't fighting

Maybe to settle down that thread we should just mention Darell Hair, and they'll forget about Musharaff and unite against their Colonial masters.

Face it, Pakistanis and Indians are friends, brother, alies who can't live without each other. They love each other more than they love themselves!

Did I just make another ludicrous statement?

If only that were true during the 2004 test series, when the India in Pakistan series thread turned into hell on Earth. Pakistan in India 2005 was almost worse.

Its not that hard to search "India in Pakistan" in the search option :p

Anyway here are the threads for the 2004, 2005 and 2006 test series. Knock yourself out. The main culprits are Indian and Pakistani posters who either only show up on CW when India are beating Pakistan (or vice-versa) or who are now banned anyway.

I can't wait to be part of the next India vs Pakistan thread.

Sure, would you like some truffles and caviar as well? A harem? Negro slaves? The world on a plate?

The problem with you is that you're obviously infinitely more racist than anyone else who has posted in this thread. Get over your victim mentality. Grow up. And stop using the r-word whenever anyone says anything negative about an asian player or team. It's pathetic.
Sorry,I'm not being racist but Lillian Thomson is.The guy has been posting rubbish against asian teams in many threads. My accustion is true & is not based on this thread alone.

The racism talk is tiring. The person may just be an idiot - not necesarrily racist. In any case, its just a board. Let's fight about Warne vs. Murali  , not Asia vs. Everyone else. After the last month, its REALLY wearing thin.

I just want to bash all the Ponting bashers, and get back to discussing who's going to lose the Ashes, instead of seeing this crap in every damn thread where people just unite by nationalities and start slamming each other.
