Didn’t watch much of it but it was pretty obvious that it was a good toss to win & was always going to be uphill once the opening bowlers were seen off

Bowling short isn’t NCN’s strength, Stoinis has done nothing and Warner ....

Thought Pandya came back well. Took a bit of tap but he did alright considering the nature of the deck and the fact that Australia wantes to target him.

Good captaincy from Kohli as well to take Bumrah off when they realised the plan was to just play him off. 6 overs of Bumrah at the death is not something the opposition is going to be happy about dealing with.

Deck was crap imo. Nothing on offer and we had a couple of shooters as well.

I know it's early days since his return but wonder whether Warner will be the same force he was for Australia pre-suspension.

His game was always built on aggression which often encompasses his behaviour and he would know that (more so than Smith) that he is on very thin ice and another controversial incident will potentially end his international career.

Perhaps that's the reason he's playing so inhibited and is trying to be 'responsible'

Didn't see any of the match after the 10th over but it reminded me a bit of these sides QF 2011 WC clash. Australia fought hard but they felt like a side with several great players who were past their peak.

Apart from Cummins, don't think any of the 2015 WC have improved and most have probably declined.

In contrast, the precision of that Indian batting effort suggested a side mentally at the top of the game. I'd almost have them as favourites over England for the title now.

We all like to crack criticisms and all, but scoring 316 in a chase like this is not at all easy. Finch, Smith, Khawaja, Maxwell, Carey all did superbly.
Finch and Maxwell did fine but Khawaja's innings wasn't good at all. The first part of the Smith Khawaja partnership was too slow and ballooned the required rate to unmanageable levels.

It's the sort of game that looks kind of close on paper but really wasn't, but I do wonder if we win had Pandya not been dropped. Dhoni hitting out did help, but one wonders whether he'd have gone into his shell after two quick wickets.

Warner's innings one for the Crap Innings Hall of Fame 2019. Very frustrating he was striking so low and felt like every shot he played went straight to the fielder.

Ultimately though the damage was done when we conceded 350. Any side would struggle with that, barring maybe England.

I think Warner and Smith merit equal culpability. Warner was completely off sorts and when aggressive batsmen go into a shell they can really look bad. The chief issue with Smith was that how he dealt with the fifth bowler during the middle overs, despite knowing Bumrah was being saved for death overs. Ultimately used up around 3 or 4 overs of the 5th bowler and contributed around 20 or 22 runs. That is just not good enough. The two ensured Australia were down and out by the 25th over.

In hindsight, all of you will be praising Warner and Smith's innings in this game as it ensured a 300+ total for Australia thus boosting the NRR. Will be crucial for semifinal chances. If it was a strategic move by Australia, I would say it's a great strategy.

Thought Kuldeep had his speed figured out in the opening overs but then gradually reverted back to the slow loopers. He landed it on the spot far more frequently than against SA though.

Smith played beautifully. He was going to be sheet anchor but you can afford only one of those in a chase this big. Warner killed all momentum unfortunately; hate to see a guy like who made his name off balls out attack fall prey to slow scoring criticism.

Warner’s biggest impact was the run out of Finch who looked imposing and set for a big score.

I do like the idea of Smith batting three if Finch goes first and Khawaja if Wanrer does. Keeping the left-right thing going not a bad idea imo

Yeah the only time I felt there might be squeaky bums for India was when TPC and Maxwell were in. Maxwell was teeing off and Smith was going a run. Ball to feed him the strike. Once Smith went it was done.

Stoinis needs the old career euthanasia tbh

They could have got the points if Warner had batted a bit faster. This wasnt some impossible chase where you try to protect your nrr.
