Collingwood is the better batsman all round.

Styris' technique is a bit suspect and he's just not as good a player.

Can't say I've ever rated either of them much TBH.

Hope we see a post from Beevs in the usual "how DARE you compare a Kiwi to a Durham player, you all know Liam Plunkett was better than Dayle Hadlee" manner.
but last season styris was a durham player too

Haha, yeah, and (the departed) Beevs' comments weren't exactly complimentary there either.

I feel that Collingwood is the better batsman (having not looked at any stats) and I feel that he holds the England middle order together while Styris contributes consistantly rather than playing an integral role.

I think Collingwood is the smarter and more talented bowler too. Collingwood extracts more swing than Styris and is cleverer with variations. From what I have seen, Collingwood can bowl quicker than Styris too, occasionally touching 125kph.

As for fielding, Collingwood is a successful backward point fielder, needless to say it makes him one of the best in the world.

I think Collingwood is better as you could guess by my arguement but I still rate Styris quite highly.

In test Collingwood's batting since the pakistan tour in 2005 to now has easily eclipsed Styris as a batsman in the longer former of the game, Styris to me in test always looks as if he could have done more. While in ODI's i'd say they are about even.

Bowling wise as mentioned already Styris had a period when he was very effecive with the ball in ODI's & probably still. Collingwood up until the last year or so bowling would be effectivif the conditions suited him i.e he 4 for vs NZ in 2002 & 6 fro for BAN in 05. But of late has been improved his bowling & is probably on par with Styris as a bowler.

Their fielding Colly wins easily. So i guess i would give Collingwood the edge overall given his recent exploits in form of the game that really brings out your true qualities as a cricketer.

It hasn't, really - Collingwood has had a lot of good fortune in that time (starting with that Third Test there) and this makes his scorebook record look a lot (not just a bit - a lot) better than his real one.

Its part of game yo, you can't criticise a batsman for have good fortune even if its alot. If he wastes his good fortune you may have a case not when he cashes in on it. Although i cannot remember Collingwood over the past 2 years being a batsman like that.

No, but you can criticise him for doing stuff that means he needs good fortune, same way you can for those who do the same stuff and don't get the fortune and hence don't score that many.

It's hard not to cash-in when you're let-off as often as he is.

I'll do a list in a minute...

Collingwood's fielding makes him the better ODI player I reckon. He's also much better between the wickets, but Styris is a bigger hitter.

Taking in both forms I'd probably go Collingwood as well.

Styris is definitely the better bowler though IMO.

tbh I think Styris is a better ODI bowler and better ODI batsman

Collingwood is the better test player (mostly cos NZ don't play tests) but for some reason I got the mistaken impression we were talking about ODIs

they are both reasonably efficient players, problem is if someone told me i had to watch either of them bat i would just groan, not sure why....they both play decent shots half the time....but the idea of watching them bat just strikes me as being entirely tedious.

In the WC seeing Styris walk on was a relief. It meant we would score some runs.

yeah thats my point though....despite them scoring the runs, and playing fairly well, they are the last two players in either side i would like to watch...but i cant explain why...they just do not draw my interest or attention.
