*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

Hoping we go with Watson Rogers Hughes Cowan/Khawaja Clarke* Smith Haddin+ Starc Pattinson Lyon Bird Harsh on Siddle, but they should be wary of picking him and Starc in the same side, they're both just too prone to having poor days. With Bird on the other hand I feel like there's much less...

    *Official* Road to 2013 Ashes

I saw nothing in Shaun Marsh last season to suggest he'd turned the corner. We always knew he was talented and that he has some spectacular shots and an adequate technique. And he's generally been capable of producing brief periods of heavy-scoring, especially in the shorter formats. What has...

Who are the best 6 batsman in Australia now?

I don't think picking Cosgrove would be a good move at the moment. Firstly he's more than just a standard 'douche', he's known since about 2006 that basically all he has to do to play international cricket is attain a decent level of fitness, something which you'd imagine would be remarkably...

    Australian cricket selection

    A) too many people are overreacting to the results in India to date. To state the obvious the conditions there drastically nullify our strength, in quick bowling, and accentuate our weaknesses, namely everything to do with spin - bowling, batting against & keeping to. Things were always likely...

    ***Official*** Australia in India 2012/13

I don't understand the logic behind taking Smith and Maxwell, unless one or both of them are just there for developmental purposes and not in with a serious shot of playing. Doherty over O'Keefe is even more bizarre than it was in 2010, O'Keefe isn't going to be a world-beater but he'd do a...

Cutting's pretty pedestrian for someone who brags to the media about liding batsmen, barely hitting 130kph

    ***Official*** Australia in India 2012/13

I'd bring Dave Hussey in for his brother, in spite of his age and poor Shield numbers this year. His game is suited to Indian wickets, he's a far more accomplished player of spin than the alternatives, he'd go some way to filling the experience void and I don't think he 'd be any less effective...

    *Official* Road to 2013 Ashes

I don't think 'slogging runs down the order' does him justice, at Perth he came in at 6/45 and made our only decent contribution, at the Gabba earlier this summer he came in at 4/40 for the Vics and played the standout knock of the match, at Dominica he came in at 5/150-odd and made our only...

    *Official* Road to 2013 Ashes

I don't get your Wade-hate, he's 24-years-old and he's made 3000-odd FC runs at over 40, despite most of his career coinciding with a period of juicier Shield wickets, and two Test hundreds in important situations in games where nobody else has hit 3 figures. His keeping is dross and he can be...

***Official*** Sri Lanka in Australia 2012/2013

He was perceived (correctly) to be pretty one-dimensional with his scoring options, making him easy to tie down. I still agree he probably should've got a look in sooner though, given his list-a record is superior to all the alternatives. On another note I don't think Usman should be playing...

You don't think he's in the best six long-form bats in the country?? Especially without Hussey there and given he's only 24.

***Official*** Sri Lanka in Australia 2012/2013

God Slater is tedious to listed to, in the past 5 minutes he's misconstruing the rotation policy and asking an opening batsman how he'd feel about being rested, then pulling figures out of his ass (Warner averaging 23 in ODIs, should be dropped, etc). Nicholas politely tries to correct him....

Better than Siddle, Johnson and Starc IMO. Bird seems level-headed and pretty uncomplicated in his methods, I don't necessarily think he'll rip through Test sides but he'll at least do a serviceable job. Whereas with Starc and Johnson (or for that matter Coulter-Nile or Cutting) you're going...

Average players suddenly becoming very good

Michael Vaughan. Never looked entirely comfortable at Test level prior to 2002 and had an ordinary FC record. I really didn't understand all the hype around him at the time. Then he suddenly became the best batsman in the world for about a year with huge series against India and Australia...

**Official Comm Bank Series - Aus, Ind & SL ODI's***

Didn't he make big contributions to a couple of wins in the ODIs against England last summer? A couple of pretty important sixties if I remember correctly. I think given the fact he's been picked pretty sporadically for Australia and generally been batting from 5-7 he hasn't been that bad.

O'Keefe showing Pattinson up in the commentary box. SOK is occasionally cringeworthy but at least he sounds somewhat confident, Pattinson plain ****ing awful, 4/60 "If India lose another wicket here they'll be on the back foot".

**Official Comm Bank Series - Aus, Ind & SL ODI's***

Not getting all the Dussey hate in this thread, lol at Steve Smith being 'a hell of a lot better'. Granted he hasn't set the world on fire in his ODI career to date, but if we cast our eyes around the domestic game for someone to bat 4, 5 or 6 and bowl 5ish overs per game then I honestly can't...

    Pecking order for Australian quicks?

I suspect Nathan Coulter-Nile is somewhere on the radar too. He's got some great fundamentals, 140kph+ outswing, good bat and field, and I know Mickey Arthur is an unabashed fan (notwithstanding WA bias). I haven't seen enough of him to know how disciplined his bowling is in the longer forms...
