Imo Andrade, Meazza and Sindelar is more akin to Ranji-Trumper. Di Stefano is more like Hobbs (and was more of a contemporary of Hutton). The most complete footballer ever imho.

Why?? Di Stefano played in an era competitive enough and not too dissimilar to Pele.

    Len Hutton vs Viv Richards

Nope. The only one above Hobbs is Don and probably Grace is Greater.

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Yeah heard this one before. My favourite story is the one where Don said he was 40 and still more fit when Miller declined having a bowl due to his War injury; and was called a Draft Dodger.

    No Di Stefano????

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

That's why I said going by stats in respect to current Era. I am not making that comparison, like at all. I said he was better than his stats in context of his era.

    Dale Steyn vs Viv Richards

It should honestly. People flak Murali for his Australia record (which I have previously explained many times that it's largely misplaced). Had Warne been in his shoes, he would had hardly bowled in those matches. Playing solitary means on a bad day you have nowhere to hide and are directly...

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

Had his stats were in current Era, he would be the GoAT by a fair margin with a 3.7 eco. In respect to his era he was better than his overall stats.

    Dale Steyn vs Brian Lara

Hadlee more often, though Marshall could hold the bat quite well. I actually rate Hadlee almost equal of Marshall's as a bowler.

    Dale Steyn vs Viv Richards

Warne is closer to Murali than McGrath and Imran are; but I think they have a clear difference in between. Being a lone wolf is much more difficult to begin with and no one carried a team on their back quite like Murali. WPM, I will say, is definitely an indicator of increased value when he a...

    Airplane Ticket Draft

Who was Watson? I believe he was the dude who made the Draft winners compendium thread and is currently banned. Was he particularly a problematic one?

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

Botham was kinda **** in ODIs. Kapil is like 23rd or 24th in my ODI bowlers list. Not necessarily ATG, but much better than merely stats suggests.

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

I don't think the gap between Kapil and Greg in Tests is necessarily a huge one. The others I can understand, but given both formats have around equal weighing, will go Kapil just over both. Also deserves some points for pioneering the role of a late order basher in ODIs imo.

    Dale Steyn vs Brian Lara

You have at times, but still it just makes more sense to me. You can directly comparing them in primary then think whether the boost of the secondary is enough to overcome that. Comparing bowlers and batsmen, in any way, is really hard.

I would argue you are rather underrating Kapil's bowling. He was a legit Great ODI bowler, as was Imran. Stats seldom is really reflective in ODIs, especially in the late 70s and the 80s.

    Dale Steyn vs Brian Lara

I am talking from a rather logical standpoint. Comparing Sachin and Kallis makes more sense than Sachin and McGrath to me.

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Miller, O'Reilly, Fingleton, Grimmett....... It's a long list. The fact that Bradman is an ATG captain while having issues with two of his best bowlers and the best all-rounder he played with, is kinda astonishing honestly.

    Dale Steyn vs Brian Lara

I would disagree here. There are legit instances in real life team selection where you have to choose between an all-rounder or a specialist. A choice between a batsman and bowler is seldom required.

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

I don't agree with that. I do think you are giving Kapil a rather hard time there. He was a player better than his stats suggests on the surface. Had a number of quality innings though very inconsistent and basically carried the bowling of a very weak team on his back. I would rate a durable...
