I think at this point the ideal combination for India would be three pacers (Bhuvi, Ishant, Yadav) + one spinner (Kuldeep > Ashwin) + whatever the **** Hardik is. They could do with two spinners if the track is slower or spin friendly and get rid of one pacer in that case (preferably Ishant).

Bhuvi only actually had a brief phase for a couple of seasons in '16 and '17 where he was any formidable as an LO pacer. I think he struggled in the beginning of his career but then put on some pace and seemed like a wholly different deal. Lately he's started to struggle again but now more so...

Not sure about effectiveness of Pandya as a test seamer. Barely count him as an all-rounder tbh after his bland and uneventful spells in SA, where he bowled less than 20 overs per match taking 3 wickets in 6 innings at 54 in seam friendly conditions. Every other seam bowler in the series...

Agree. But I don't think India would want to play two spinners; that would effectively mean getting rid of Pandya or one pacer like Umesh. I don't imagine India dropping Pandya in any test even if he performs poorly. India would also quite definitely need at least three good seamers (Pandya is...

Yadav and Chahal are going to be a feature during the entire LO leg. I doubt England batsmen could do much against them, even on roads. India will have a serious edge in tests too if they play Kuldeep. It should be a no-brainer by now imo. Ashwin simply doesn't deserve a test spot ahead of...

I'm quite confident of Ashwin continuing being his usual underwhelming self overseas so Kuldeep getting a chance after at most two tests. Would be much better if he plays in the first test of ahead of Ashwin but that's probably not going to happen.

Good comeback from Chahal after that 16-run over. England must be disappointed, they'd be going around 9.5 rpo if not for Hales

I think Chahal is one of those bowlers who are consistent enough to perform well in every series but keep having a bad game or two in between. I have seen him perform well in high pressure conditions in IPL, ODIs and T20Is. Really rate him. Kuldeep has more of a mystery element about him and...

    Wastemen etc

The only person who compares to Finch in terms of average is Kohli at 51 before the Ireland series (48 now) but his strike rate is much poorer at 137. So Finch is definitely a T20 ATG in my view. I'm still not convinced he'd make a successful test batsman but with the rubbish that Aussie test...

I don't usually look forward to T20Is but this match up promises to be interesting. Even without Bumrah.

I hope Bumrah's injury is bad enough to keep him out of the tests. Don't want the management experimenting with him in the attack when we already have a couple of really good swing bowlers in Bhuvi and Yadav. SA had more bouncy and pacy tracks which favoured his kind of bowling but he still...

Mujeeb and Rashid with more expensive spells in this test than they would normally have in a T20 match. Brutal from Dhawan
