All time world ODI XI game

Played relatively few matches, but he was damn good. Better than Lee IMO And as inferred above, Waqar first change

All time world ODI XI game

Dhoni + Pollock Bond ... Shane Bond!

Placing our bets on "Test Cricket's Young Fab Four"

Yep. Plus it's difficult to take evasive action if you want to leave a shorter delivery. And you progressively close down the offside as a scoring area. Standing on off stump is nothing new. The worst batsmen at my club did it. None of them scored like Smith. Steve, Graeme, Robin, Will or Jayden

    1. Anwar 2. Tendulkar 3. Kohli 4. Viv 5. De Villiers 6. Bevan/Hussey 7. Dhoni+ 8. Akram 9. Garner 10. Murali 11. McGrath Bit bowler-lite admitted. Dependent on Viv, Tendulkar and Bevan (he probably squeezes past Hussey) teaming up to knock over 10 overs between them

All time world ODI XI game

... btw, I do think hero worship and unwillingness to change has damaged Indian cricket over the years, yes. But not nearly as badly as their pace attacks have

Nick Knight should open the Batting! There, I said it!

All time world ODI XI game

Yeah I was thinking that. Still, I'd maybe take Trescothick as a pure batsman above Jayasuria. Tresco was a monster in ODIs
  8. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

If you had to shoehorn one English player in who would it be? Flintoff KP Trescothick Gough
  9. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Yes. They had a sickening embarrassment of riches between the late 90s and mid 00s
  10. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Headache. Difficult to split Gilchrist and Dhoni as keepers if picking Dhoni means you have Sanath J opening, whom Gilchrist marginally betters IMO. Yet Sanath bowls well and I can't justify Gilchrist and Dhoni for some reason. In answer to the other question: De Villiers ?

All time world ODI XI game

That's a beauty of cricket though right? Great ODI batsman, crap test batsman. Part of the art of the game
  12. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Agreed. Bevan is an automatic. Waugh very, very good but not elite. Ditto Gilchrist and Warne is deffo second to Murali in this format.
  13. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Symonds was a very good batsman and great fielder, but not on the radar a bowler for me. I'd consider him a 6th bowler at best ... trundling 3 or 4 overs a match ... on a good day!
  14. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Serious question, Mike Hussey?? There was once a time he was Bevan-like in his ODI batsmanship. Is he a fringe contender for lower-middle order finisher?
  15. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

... Gilchrist doesn't make it as a batsman alone though
  16. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Yeah Gilchrist superior to Sanath. And Flintoff was a great OD player.
  17. GuyFromLancs

All time world ODI XI game

Dhoni McGrath and ... Shane Bond (Curveball)

The last 2 years were the Sachin show. It went too far.
