Did Marshall and McGrath have it easier?

The elephant in the room is that, when you have a pack of bowlers, you tend to arrive at the tail more often, and tail end wickets tend to be cheaper. For a player like Hadlee, he had to arrive at the tail all by himself on most of times. But for McGrath and Marshall there were others to do it...

Don Bradman and Rubel Hossain vs Sachin Tendulkar and Dale Steyn

Rubel Hussain brings down anyone to the level of mediocrity

McGrath & Lillee vs Donald & Steyn vs Imran & Akram

It is between Wasim and Imran vs Donald and Steyn. Lilliee is not of the same quality as other five so that combination is out. I'd pick Donald and Steyn.

ODI : If you could pick just one - Sanath Jayasuriya vs Andrew Flintoff

I'd put Jayasuriya there too. Impactful performances in wining matches with bat, ball or in the field. MS Dhoni is not far behind if not ahead.

ODI : If you could pick just one - Sanath Jayasuriya vs Andrew Flintoff

Symonds and Watson are more in batting allrounder category. Angelo Mathews and Kaliis fits nicely in the category too. Kapil and Carins are way more rounded. Flintoff is a bowling all rounder for all purposes. He fits well with Imran and Pollock.

ODI : If you could pick just one - Sanath Jayasuriya vs Andrew Flintoff

Pollock could easily replace him one for one.

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Hadlee as a bowler alone is better than Botam as an all rounder.

    Andrew Flintoff vs Sanath Jayasuriya

Flintoff was a very poor batsman, test or ODI. Managed to bonk the ball in few innings. Could not play spin at all. Jayasuriya did play some daddy knocks home and away at least, and single handedly winning some.

    Andrew Flintoff vs Sanath Jayasuriya

Jaysuriya was miles ahead as a fielder and a captain in any format. That closes the gap decisively for me.

    Andrew Flintoff vs Sanath Jayasuriya

OP asks for the better cricketer. So fielding and captaincy also comes in.

ODI : Shaun Pollock vs Dale Steyn

    Pollock by some distance

Shakib vs Jayasuriya vs Yuvraj vs Afridi

Jayasuriya easily better in his youth. Sri Lanka put out half a dozen fielders better than Yuvraj in 90s. Mahanama, Dilshan, Chandana, Jayasuriya, Murali, Tillekaratne all were elite in the field in late 90s. There is another half a dozen who did not make the internationals regularly. That was...

    Andrew Flintoff vs Sanath Jayasuriya

Better test all rounder - Flintoff by a mile Better ODI all rounder - Sanath by a whisker Sanath's captaincy skills and ATG fielding puts him slightly ahead.

Shakib vs Jayasuriya vs Yuvraj vs Afridi

Jayasuriya. Best batsman out there, best fielder out of them, and probably touch behind Shakib and Afridi as a bowler. Very tough competitor too, compared to others.

*** Official *** Sri Lanka in South Africa, Nov 27 to Dec 9 2024

Both DdS and Chandimal was out with injudicial shots. DdS had a daddy hundred in the sight given the fluency he had at crease. Chandimal was much more laborious.

This was always the fast bowling attack we were lacking. Mathews looks like he is in his last legs. His unfitness in cringy. Still he bowls dibbly dobblies to trouble batsman, by just altering line and length. He should become a fast bowling coach IMO.

Just How Good Was Barry Richards?

Once again, those players who played Underwood and Co was found wanting in subcontinent when the heat, dust, relentless pressure from spinners set in. It is not like playing Underwood alone when, Chandra, Prasanna and Bedi are at you on a spinning pitch, or when few of Mushtaq, Qadir, Qasim, and...

    Graeme Pollock vs Sangakarra

Issue with the argument is even with quality Sanga is better. He was a way better player of spin than any South African batsman.
