The Great Indian Middle Order Crisis Thread

Vihari was also the top scorer for India A on their tour of South Africa and made 60 runs for one dismissal in the Jo burg. think he deserves a sustained run to see if he really has what it takes at this level

***Official*** India in South Africa 2021-22

think India should have played Vihari in place of ashwin. Kohli seems fixated on having five bowlers but seeing neither jadeja nor Washington sundar was available, it made more sense with six batsmen four bowlers. Neither Ashwin nor Shardul were good enough to bat at 7 in these conditions.

I actually genuinely think this might be a good thing for India provided they make the appropriate decisions following this Say bye to Rahane and Pujara Say bye to Mayank at least for overseas tests Say bye to Umesh and Ishant and invest in Prasidh Avesh and isHan porel.

Think Sa might fall about 30-40 short.

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

Sa got rolled at home twice by margins of over 150 runs to a moderate Australia side in 2009. I mean Johnson Siddle Hilfenhaus and Andrew McDonald isn’t exactly Ambrose Walsh bishop and Patterson. They got beaten by an innings by England at home in 09-10 and could only get a draw. They got...

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

Dude if they were that good a team they should have beaten Australia at least once at home across the 3 series they played at home to them in that period. They couldn’t manage that. nor could they beat India at home or away. Beating India away from home is IMO the pinnacle of achievement of...

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

SA faced an ageing India side in 2010 and were unable to beat them over a home and away series. and the Australian sides they lost to in 2009 and could only only draw to in 2011 at home were a clear step down from the great Aussie side of the 2000s.

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

Even if kohli doesn’t regain supreme run scoring form surely India are stronger than they are at present with Vihari at 3 and Gill at 5.

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

The Australian sides from 1999 to 2006/07 and the Windies sides from 1980 to 1987 were two of the best teams of all time no doubt. Not sure I put the Australian sides from 1990-1998 and the Windies sides from 87-95 in the same category. Virat Kohlis India actually has a superior win loss ratio...

In Before the Knighthood: A Thread for Shimron Hetmeyer

When I first saw Hetmyer in the 2016 u19 World Cup he reminded me a bit of Richie Richardson who was my favourite batsman growing up. suffice to say Shimron has been a rather big disappointment since and is shaping up to be the biggest wasted batting talent since hooper and arthurton. I hope...

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

They may be exceptionally beatable but they are considerably less so than the other sides. since the start of Jan 2015, India have lost just three test series. Nz in contrast have lost six I believe ( 2 away to India, 2 to Australia, 2 to Sa ). Not to mention Nz could also not beat Sri Lanka in...

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

Maybe in England but definitely not in a India. And on the whole kohlis team has a better win loss ratio than England in the 2009-13 period.

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

Kohlis India deserve respect as an atvg side IMO. They are below peak West Indies (80-87) and Australia (1999-2007) but their win loss record stacks up favourably against sides acknowledged as being very good e,g RSA 2006-2013, Windies 87-95, Australia 1990-1998. this despite the fact that they...

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

India have arguably got batsmen sitting on the bench who would contribute more than Pujara and Rahane so you could certainly make the case they would be a stronger side by dropping those two. I mean Rahane averages in the 30s at home. Whatever faults Shreyas has againstgenuine quick bowling...

Will this be England's worst ever 5-0 defeat in Australia?

He also averages 50 with the ball in India.

Will this be England's worst ever 5-0 defeat in Australia?

I'm not convinced about Starc. He has the speed which you need for success on the subcontinent but he strays a bit too much on the leg side _ can get away with that on quicker bouncier wickets but you'll be milked for runs in India doing that.

Will this be England's worst ever 5-0 defeat in Australia?

Yup I think Jhye might be a better bet on the subcontinent than Starc or Haze.
  18. Salamuddin

Will this be England's worst ever 5-0 defeat in Australia?

Think Australia are in a pretty good space heading to their subcontinent tours. I don't think they are a great side in the making ala Australia 1999 but they could certainly have success in the next two years culminating in a wtc championship win in 2023. The big target of course is winning...

England (and Wales) gloom, doom and recriminations thread

Think England have to back Pope. I think he has the goods to be a very good batsman in the long term - young batsmen take time to develop and he is the most promising of England’s young batsmen. a middle order of root pope stokes and foakes ain’t too bad. The issue is the top 3. Hameed is the...

When did the 'great' West Indies team(s) stop being great?

They stopped being a great team after 87 when garner and Gomes left and stopped being a very good one in 1991 when greenidge viv , Marshall and Dujon all left. Probably stopped being a good one and just became and ok to average side after 1996 when both Haynes and Richardson had gone and bishop...
