That's a great catch. It looked like it was still rising pretty steeply

Nah I disagree. A genuine quick can make all the difference in a tight test match on any pitch. iirc, Stokes had a quick and hostile spell in the 3rd test last SL tour that pretty much changed the game. You pick your most impactful team whatever the tour, and arguably someone like Wood or Archer...

I'll care about the WTC as soon as the points system makes sense/is fair which is likely never to be the case. A two match series being worth the same amount of points as a five match one is just dumb

Current Big 4 test all rounders.

Interesting to note that Stokes has a better strike rate bowling wise. Holder's is north of 60 which is fairly unimpressive for a main bowler(though countered by his decent economy rate and average) Think the least you could say is that Stokes is as much a better batsmen than Holder as Holder is...

India and Australia are significantly more monstrous than any other team at home right now though, and probably also are the two teams that put up the biggest fight in away tests (Would have said NZ too if it weren't for their recent aus tour as their win in the UAE was really impressive). No...

Kohli shoudn't really be bringing up the toss as an excuse tbh. Might well have changed the unfolding of events (as any slight change does) but they batted poorly both in testing and less testing conditions, and ultimately bowled worse than NZ too. Think they'll bounce back in the second test mind

It likely would have looked a pretty decent decision if India would have won the toss to be fair

You feel India's small bowling depth could be exploited here. With their 5th bowling choice being a part time spinner, and their best bowler only recently coming back from injury and them being likely and justifiably cautious about overworking him, there could be a lot of overs for Ashwin and a...

All isn't necessarily lost for India even if NZ rack up a decently imposing total here to be fair, or at least it might not be. With the weather and the general pattern of NZ pitches flattening out as the game progresses, I could see them saving the game in a similar fashion to SL a year or so...

    The Next Great Bowler

If he is managed properly and doesn't continue to suffer with injuries I think Archer is going to be up there in a a couple years time

Butler gone within the first 3 overs and we have Denly coming in at 6 to finish up the innings Fantastic

No Malan and Denly again? This is absolutely baffling. I hope we lose tbh

Road to the World T20 in the year 2020 (and 2021)

It's surprising how badly Stokes has done in his short(ish) t20i career, but you definitely can't leave him out imo, especially if it means an inexperienced Banton comes in instead and Wood bats at 7. The big issue is going to be/should be whether Root or Malan start at 3. 1. Roy 2. Bairstow...

He's been opening for a while I think and tbf has been fairly successful. I'd much rather have him in the middle order to finish games off though, since we have more than enough resources in terms of openers and no.3s On that subject Root has been rested, but he probably isn't necessarily a...

Denly is an efficient selection in tests, justifiable in an odi squad that is significantly weakened but in this t20 team? In a world cup year? When you're picking him in front of a bloke who has averaged 57 and a strike rate of 155 (more than +45 average on Denly)? Seems absolutely baffling to...

Yeah I think the thinking behind Jennings is probably also because neither of the two openers have really been tested that much against spin. If one of them seems especially vulnerable in the first test then I feel like he might be considered

Bit of a nothing series in the end, but glad we could (barely) keep that unbeaten run in ODI series going. Haven't lost one since India back in 2017. Long may it continue

Surely Parkinson has to bowl a bit quicker if he is going to succeed at odi/test level? Its fine in t20s when the batsmen are trying to after you but seems too easy to just sit back and wait for the spin

Can't see anything less than 250 being competitive here. Good to see a pitch that isn't an absolute road though (at least I don't think it is anyway). There's something in it for the bowlers and dew should be a bit less of a factor in the chase
